The great gastronomic festival of July 14th at the Plessis pond
Every July 14th, the village of Poulaines celebrates its famous Frog Festival at the Plessis pond. This festive and gastronomic day begins with a hiking and mountain biking excursion, a fishing competition, and a country meal under the trees. The highlight of the festival is the giant dinner with 280 kg of frog legs prepared according to the special Plessis recipe. A concert, a popular ball, and a fireworks display by the water conclude this friendly and family-oriented day.
The Fête de la Grenouille de Poulaines is one of the most original and festive events in the Indre department. Every July 14th, the village of Poulaines, located in the Boischaut Nord, celebrates the national holiday in its own way, centered around frogs and gastronomy. The étang du Plessis, a peaceful natural setting in the heart of the Berry countryside, hosts this popular event which brings together hundreds of guests in a warm and friendly atmosphere.
The day begins at 7:30 AM with the start of hiking and mountain biking tours from the Plessis campsite. Hikers and cyclists will explore the Boischaut hills through the paths and trails of the Berry countryside. Simultaneously, a fishing competition is organized by the pond for fish enthusiasts. These outdoor sports activities are a great way to start the day before the gastronomic festivities.
Around noon, a country meal is served under the trees by the pond, in a friendly and family atmosphere. In the afternoon, activities for the whole family are offered: carousels, children's games, a concert by the Harmonie de Poulaines, and food stalls. The Plessis pond site offers a green and pleasant setting to enjoy this day of outdoor celebration.
The highlight of the festival arrives at 7:00 PM with the grand frog leg dinner. 280 kg of frog legs are prepared by volunteers according to the special Plessis recipe, passed down through generations. This giant meal brings together hundreds of guests seated outdoors by the pond, in a festive and gourmet atmosphere that has made this festival famous far beyond the borders of the Indre.
The evening continues with a popular ball led by an orchestra, where dancers of all ages gather under the stars. The climax of the festival is the fireworks display launched by the water, whose reflections illuminate the surface of the Plessis pond. This pyrotechnic show beautifully concludes a day of celebration that honors both July 14th, gastronomy, and the art of country living in Berry.
