Homage to sailor-fishermen and celebration of the sea since 1933
The Fête de la Mer de Trouville-sur-Mer, born in 1933 from a simple blessing of the sea, has become over the decades one of the most emblematic events on the Norman coast. Every year in the heart of summer, this festival pays a solemn tribute to the sailor-fishermen and celebrates the unbreakable link between Trouville and the ocean.
The Fête de la Mer takes place over two days. Saturday is dedicated to festivities and entertainment, with an exhibitors' village offering artisanal creations from the maritime world: jewelry, driftwood objects, saffron, and local products. Demonstrations by Aquadog rescue dogs punctuate the day.
Sunday takes on a more solemn character: a parade by the 51st Highland Memorial Scottish Pipe Band resonates on the quays from 9:30 AM, followed by a mass at the Notre-Dame-des-Victoires church in honor of those lost at sea. A procession then leads to the memorial stele on the Jean-Claude Brize jetty, where an absolution is given offshore.
The most moving moment of the festival takes place in the late afternoon: the departure of the Trouville boats towards the sea, a maritime scene full of emotion that concludes the weekend of celebration. This procession of decorated boats, accompanied by floral tributes laid at sea, symbolizes respect and gratitude towards those who live from the sea.
The Sea Festival returns on August 1st and 2nd, 2026, to the Port of Trouville-sur-Mer. An institution since 1933, this maritime festival celebrates the sea and sailors with its exhibitors' village, children's entertainment, and the traditional tribute ceremony to those lost at sea.
On August 1st and 2nd, 2026, the Port of Trouville-sur-Mer hosts the Sea Festival, a maritime tradition established in 1933 that pays tribute to the sea and seafarers. Admission is free.
An exhibitors' village is set up opposite the town hall: historical photo exhibition, artistic creations related to the sea, and stands from associations such as the Société Nationale de Sauvetage en Mer (SNSM). Children can enjoy traditional wooden games.
Among the popular highlights: the mackerel rillettes competition, the boat decoration competition, and the now-famous mackerel toss (plush). The weekend concludes with solemn ceremonies: mass in honor of sailors, procession, and absolution at sea in memory of those lost.
The dates of the Sea Festival vary each year depending on the tides (late July or early August).
Detailed schedule to be communicated by the Trouville-sur-Mer Tourist Office closer to the event.
The festival takes place on the quays of the port of Trouville-sur-Mer, at the Notre-Dame-des-Victoires church, and on the Jean-Claude Brize jetty.
