Homage to sailors and traditions of the Côte de Nacre
The Fête de la Mer de Courseulles-sur-Mer is a summer event that perpetuates the maritime traditions of this port town on the Côte de Nacre, in Calvados. The event pays tribute to sailors and highlights the heritage of the fishing port and the marina, places of life and history for the commune.
A renewed format since 2024
Since 2024, the traditional Fête de la Mer has evolved into two distinct highlights. A solemn ceremony of homage to lost sailors is held in August, with wreath-laying and a moment of remembrance. A grand festive weekend, renamed Fête du Port et des Traditions (Port and Traditions Festival), takes place at the end of August with festive activities for everyone.
A festive weekend in the heart of the port
The Fête du Port et des Traditions weekend offers a rich program: open-air concerts, craft and producer stalls, boat exhibition, activities around maritime traditions, and gourmet discoveries. The marina and fishing port of Courseulles-sur-Mer offer an exceptional setting for these festivities, which attract locals and visitors from all over Normandy.
A living maritime heritage
Courseulles-sur-Mer, known for its active fishing port and oyster farming tradition, is also a memorial site of the D-Day landings (Juno Beach). The Fête de la Mer is part of the town's commitment to promoting its maritime identity and passing on to future generations the attachment of the people of Courseulles to the sea and its trades.
