About Soirs d'Été

Caen Soirs d'Été refers to the summer season of free street performances organized by the City of Caen. Since 2026, this program has primarily been expressed through Éclat(s) de rue, a street arts season concentrated in August, which takes over the parks, squares, and neighborhoods of the Norman capital. Circus, theater, dance, clown, puppet, and fire arts companies present dozens of free performances, open to all, as part of the broader 'Un été à Caen' program (night markets on Quai Vendeuvre, Mon quartier d'été, Jardins d'été, Fête nationale).

A Summer of Free Street Performances in Caen

Caen Soirs d'Été is the historical name for the summer season of free street performances organized by the City of Caen. For over twenty years, the Norman capital has transformed its parks, gardens, squares, and neighborhoods into open-air stages to host circus, street theater, dance, clown, puppet, and fire arts companies, open free of charge to all audiences.

In 2026, this program primarily takes the form of Éclat(s) de rue, the twelfth season of street arts in Caen, concentrated in August. The season runs from March to December 2026, with artistic workshops and company residencies in the neighborhoods, and a series of free performances in the heart of summer.

A Free Program Distributed Across Neighborhoods

Each season brings together about thirty companies for fifty free performances, covering all artistic fields of live outdoor entertainment. The performances are divided into several highlights in different neighborhoods of the city and on the Presqu'île, close to residents. An 'OFF' program, selected by a jury of spectators, completes the lineup.

At the Heart of Caen's Summer

Caen Soirs d'Été is part of the City of Caen's summer cultural program ('Un été à Caen'), alongside the artisanal night markets set up along Quai Vendeuvre, the festivities of the Fête nationale on July 14th, and Mon quartier d'été. The event stands out for its complete freeness and its presence in all neighborhoods, with the aim of making culture accessible to the widest possible audience.

Soirs d'Été — edition 2026

In 2026, the City of Caen's program of free street performances will be concentrated in August under the banner Éclat(s) de rue, the twelfth season of street arts in Caen. From August 6 to 29, 36 companies will present around fifty free performances (dance, theatre, circus, clown, puppetry, fire…) to meet the public, divided into four highlights in the city's districts and on the Presqu'île.

Caen Summer Evenings 2026: Street Arts Take Over the Districts in August

For summer 2026, the City of Caen's season of free street performances takes the form of Éclat(s) de rue, the twelfth season of street arts in the Norman capital. The program runs from March to December 2026 (artistic workshops and residencies in the districts) and culminates with a series of free performances concentrated in August. 36 companies are hosted for approximately 55 performances, covering all artistic fields: dance, theatre, circus, clown, puppetry, fire arts.

Four Highlights in August 2026

The season is divided into four highlights. The first three take place over two days in three districts of Caen, the fourth takes place over three days on the Presqu'île:

  • August 6 and 7 — Guérinière district
  • August 13 and 14 — Colline aux Oiseaux
  • August 20 and 21 — Sainte-Thérèse district
  • August 27, 28 and 29 — Presqu'île

Six additional companies participate in the program as part of the « OFF », selected by a jury of volunteer spectators; they perform their show twice during the last highlight on the Presqu'île. Several Norman and Caen-based companies are again featured, including the Imperial Kikiristan company (creation « Ul'timata ») and the Caen-based Joe Sature company (creation « The Recital »).

All Summer, Open-Air Events

The program is part of Caen's summer (« Un été à Caen »), alongside the artisanal night markets on Quai Vendeuvre (Fridays July 10, 17, 24, 31 and August 7, 14, from 5 PM to 11 PM), the National Day festivities on July 14 (animations Place Courtonne and fireworks launched from the Château ramparts) and Mon quartier d'été.
