Contemplations — Rendez-vous at the Cathedral

Each summer, the Contemplations show transforms Bayeux Cathedral into a living canvas of light and colors. Designed by the company Spectaculaires, the "image lighters", specialists in monumental light installations, this free sound and light show takes over the facade and spire of the cathedral three evenings a week throughout the summer, from dusk until midnight.

A lush nature inspired by Alain Thomas

The mapping is inspired by the lush and colorful universe of the painter Alain Thomas, a major figure in naive-primitive art from Nantes. On the Gothic stone of the edifice, an animated fresco of abundant landscapes unfolds in an explosion of shapes and colors, populated by plant and animal motifs that ascend to the spire before descending towards the apse, accompanied by an original musical creation.

An unmissable summer event

The Rendez-vous à la Cathédrale has become one of Bayeux's flagship summer events: the 2025 edition gathered over 50,000 spectators. On Tuesday, Thursday, and Saturday evenings, residents and tourists gather on the square and in the adjacent streets to enjoy this magical show for free. The Bayeux-Bessin tourist office coordinates the event. The cathedral is also exceptionally open in the evening to allow visitors to discover the interior of the edifice.
