Every June 21st, the city of Châlons-en-Champagne celebrates music in all its forms for the Fête de la Musique. Since 1992, the City has entrusted the association Musiques sur la Ville with the organization and coordination of this event, which has become a must-attend in Châlons' cultural life.
Three stages in the heart of the city
The Fête de la Musique in Châlons is based on three main stages, each dedicated to a different style:
- "Music" Stage on Place de la République: hosts rock, pop, French chanson, jazz, and variety bands
- "Dance" Stage on Place Foch: dedicated to world music, dances, and festive rhythms
- Grand Jard Bandstand: dedicated to electronic music, featuring local collectives and groups
An open and popular program
Around fifty musical groups from the region perform throughout the evening starting at 5 PM. The association Musiques sur la Ville coordinates artist registrations, project proposals, and the setup of equipped stages. In addition to the official stages, musicians spontaneously take over the streets, terraces, and cafes in the city center, creating a festive and friendly atmosphere throughout the city.
An event rooted in Châlons' cultural life
For over thirty years, the Fête de la Musique in Châlons-en-Champagne has embodied the meeting of amateur and professional musicians, offering an "original, open, quality, and popular" program. In 2025, the event also included guided tours of the "Music and Châlonnais" exhibition at the Bibliothèque Pompidou, blending heritage and musical discovery.
Fête de la Musique Châlons — edition 2026
The 44th Fête de la Musique in Châlons-en-Champagne will be held on Sunday, June 21, 2026, starting at 5 PM, in the city center. Organized by the Musiques sur la Ville association and the City's Culture Department, this free evening brings together some fifty musical groups of all styles on several stages and in the streets, bars, and cafés. An opening concert « Set Up Jazz » is announced for June 20, 2026, at the gardens of Champagne Joseph Perrier.
2026 Edition: The 44th Fête de la Musique in Châlons-en-Champagne
On Sunday, June 21, 2026, starting at 5 PM, Châlons-en-Champagne celebrates the 44th Fête de la Musique. The City sets up equipped stages and platforms throughout the city center to make this annual event one for all residents. The organization is jointly handled by the Musiques sur la Ville association and the Culture Department of the City of Châlons-en-Champagne.
Several Thematic Stages in the City Center
The 2026 edition distributes the program across several locations in the city center (Place de la République, Place Foch, Tourist Office forecourt, Petit Jard, Grand Jard, and surrounding streets), with stages dedicated by musical style:
- Place de la République — 'Music' stage (contemporary music, chanson, variety)
- Place Foch — urban dances and cultures
- Rue Émile-Leroy / Marché Couvert — rock and metal
- Les Jards — electronic music, animated by local collectives and groups
In addition to the official stages, many musicians spontaneously take over the streets, terraces, bars, and cafés of the city center. The program offers a panorama of contemporary amateur practices and a fair representation of the artistic aspirations of Châlonnais residents, in a festive and friendly atmosphere.
