Free concerts throughout the city on June 21, 2026
Every June 21, Caen celebrates the Fête de la Musique (Music Festival): amateur musicians, music school students, and professional artists play for free in the streets, squares, and heritage sites of the city. Stages will be set up in the city center, the Abbaye-aux-Dames, and, for the first time in 2026, the Abbaye aux Hommes. The day is entirely free and open to all, from mid-afternoon until the heart of the night.
As everywhere in France since 1982, the Fête de la Musique transforms the city of Caen into an open-air stage every June 21. Music freely takes over public spaces: amateur musicians and established artists play in the streets, squares, bars, and major heritage sites of Caen, from early afternoon until late into the night.
Numerous stages are set up in the streets of the city center, and all musical styles are represented. The highlight of the day takes place in the park of the Abbaye-aux-Dames, where the Région Normandie programs a series of amplified concerts featuring Norman bands until late in the evening.
For the 2026 edition, the Abbaye aux Hommes opens its halls and esplanade for the first time to the Fête de la Musique, reserved for non-amplified music (chamber music, choirs, classical guitar). Open stages and acoustic proposals complete the setup, not forgetting the spontaneous concerts from bars, associations, and music schools throughout the city.
The Fête de la Musique 2026 in Caen will take place on Sunday, June 21, free of charge throughout the city. Stages will animate the city center, the Abbaye-aux-Dames will host a program of Norman bands starting at 4 PM, and the Abbaye aux Hommes will open its spaces for the first time to unamplified music.
Overview of the main events announced for the 2026 edition, location by location:
A highlight of the day, supported by the Région Normandie: eight Norman bands will perform successively on stage, from 4 PM until late in the evening, in a friendly and festive atmosphere in the heart of the park. The program includes various styles — slam song, world music, soul hip-hop, pop rock, electro pop, and rap hip-hop — with Vincent DO, Azawan, Mary L*Astérisk, Palladium, Lotti, 3pour100, The Lanskies, and SPRNS.
For the first time, this monument founded in 1063 opens its halls and esplanade to the Fête de la Musique, with a program dedicated to unamplified music: chamber music, choirs, and classical guitar.
Numerous stages are set up in the city center streets, where amateurs and local bands perform for free in all styles, complemented by concerts from bars, restaurants, and cultural venues.
Open stages and acoustic formats welcome amateur musicians throughout the day, in the participatory spirit of the Fête de la Musique.
