June 21st at the foot of the medieval castle, Dourdan celebrates music in an exceptional setting
Every year, on June 21st, the town of Dourdan offers its residents and visitors one of the most remarkable settings in Essonne to celebrate the Fête de la Musique. At the foot of the medieval castle of Dourdan — built in the 13th century under the reign of Philippe II Auguste and Saint Louis —, free concerts and entertainment create a unique festive atmosphere, blending history and modernity for an evening.
The castle of Dourdan is one of the best-preserved castles in Île-de-France. Its towers, ramparts, and moats form a spectacular backdrop for the musical evenings of June 21st. The Fête de la Musique in Dourdan takes full advantage of this exceptional heritage to create memorable concerts, where contemporary music dialogues with ancient stones.
In 2025, it was the musical project Bigkik that performed at the foot of the castle with an immersive electronic live set, transforming the old medieval town into a resolutely contemporary open-air stage. This contrast between historical heritage and musical modernity is one of the signatures of the Fête de la Musique in Dourdan.
The Fête de la Musique in Dourdan welcomes amateur musicians and established artists in a spirit of openness and generosity. The town, whose Dourdannais inter-municipal community brings together several thousand inhabitants, also mobilizes its cultural associations and music schools to participate in the event.
The program reflects the diversity of musical tastes: electro, pop, rock, jazz, classical music, and French songs follow one another on the town's stages for an eclectic and popular evening. The town launches a call for applications each year from local musicians and bands wishing to perform during the event.
The Fête de la Musique is part of Dourdan's annual festive calendar, a town labeled "Ville d'art et d'histoire" (Town of Art and History) for its remarkable heritage. Alongside the Medieval Festival (first weekend of June) and other cultural events, June 21st represents a highlight of municipal life, bringing together all generations in the common celebration of music.
The event is entirely free, accessible to all, and takes place outdoors in the historic center of the town.
The Fête de la Musique 2026 in Dourdan will take place on Sunday, June 21, from 2:00 PM to 11:30 PM, in the heart of the medieval city and at the foot of the castle. The program includes: a 100% Dourdan concert bringing together over 80 residents at 4:00 PM in Place du Général de Gaulle, followed by an electro evening led by artist Bigkik within the castle grounds. Free concerts open to all.
On Sunday, June 21, 2026, from 2:00 PM to 11:30 PM, Dourdan celebrates the Fête de la Musique in the heart of its historic center and at the foot of its medieval castle. The city of art and history in Essonne offers a rhythmic and friendly day, entirely free and open to all, in the spirit of the summer solstice.
A highlight of this edition, the "Les Quartiers Chantés" project takes the stage for the Fête de la Musique at 4:00 PM in Place du Général de Gaulle. Led by the City of Dourdan in partnership with the Scène nationale de l'Essonne, it brings together over 80 residents — amateurs, emerging talents, and established artists from the city's neighborhoods — for a collective performance celebrating the soul of Dourdan.
In the evening, artist Bigkik delivers an electro live set ("Live Machine" set) mixing original creations and reinterpretations of cult electronic tracks. In the medieval setting of Dourdan Castle, synthetic sounds and pulsating rhythms make the walls resonate for a night as festive as it is eclectic.
The full program will be announced as June 21 approaches on the official website of the city of Dourdan.
