Patronal Festival of the Assumption in Piana, celebrated every August 15th in Corse-du-Sud
The Piana Festival is the patronal festival of the village of Piana, in Corse-du-Sud, celebrated annually on August 15th for the Assumption of the Virgin Mary. This religious and popular festival, rooted in Corsican tradition, brings together residents and visitors for a morning mass, a procession through the village, an aperitif offered by the municipality on the church square, and a fireworks display fired in the evening over Arone beach.
Organized jointly by the parish and the Piana town hall, the event is part of the calendar of major Assumption festivals that punctuate the Corsican summer. Every year on August 15th, the village of Piana celebrates its patronal festival on the occasion of the Assumption of the Virgin Mary. It is one of the most important events in the commune, marking the heart of the summer season in this part of the Gulf of Porto.
The day begins with a solemn morning mass at the Sainte-Marie church in Piana. In the late afternoon, a procession carries the statue of the Virgin through the village streets, accompanied by residents and local brotherhoods. The procession concludes on the church square, where the municipality offers an aperitif to everyone.
In the evening, around 10:30 PM, fireworks are set off over Arone beach, a few kilometers from the village. This pyrotechnic show, one of the most renowned on the west Corsican coast, attracts many spectators to the beach and bay every summer.
