Oyster Opening Competition and Celebration of Maritime Trades
The Fête des Écaillers at the Cité de l'Huître in Marennes is an event that highlights the profession of oyster shucker and oyster farming know-how. This oyster opening competition brings together professionals and students in two categories: the professional championship, qualifying for the French championships, and the Bourriche d'Or Marennes-Oléron reserved for students, centered around two technical challenges of opening and platter presentation.
The Fête des Écaillers is a prestigious competition that celebrates the excellence of the oyster shucker profession in Charente-Maritime. Organized in partnership with the Regional Committee of Conchyliulture and the Quality Group of Marennes-Oléron oysters, this competition takes place at the Cité de l'Huître in Marennes, a temple of oyster farming culture.
The competition offers two distinct categories. The professional championship brings together the best oyster shuckers from Charente-Maritime, with the winner qualifying for the French Oyster Shuckers Championships. The Bourriche d'Or Marennes-Oléron, reserved for students, offers future professionals the opportunity to demonstrate their mastery. The two technical challenges evaluate the quick and neat opening of oysters and the aesthetic composition of seafood platters.
