Celebration of the new wine in the heart of the Alsatian vineyard
Every autumn, the charming wine village of Gueberschwihr celebrates the arrival of the new wine during a festive and gourmet weekend on the town hall square. Organized by the village winegrowers, this friendly festival offers commented walks in the vineyards, tastings of new wine with foie gras, wood-fired tarte flambées, an aperitif concert, and musical entertainment. An authentic event in the heart of the Alsace Wine Route, in a village listed among the most beautiful in the Alsatian vineyard.
Gueberschwihr, nestled on the foothills of the Vosges between Colmar and Rouffach, is one of the jewels of the Alsatian vineyard. This small village of 830 inhabitants, dominated by its remarkable 12th-century Romanesque bell tower — one of the most beautiful in Alsace — is surrounded by hillsides planted with vines that produce renowned wines, particularly on the terroir of the Grand Cru Goldert. It is in this exceptional heritage and wine-growing setting that the Fête du Vin Nouveau takes place every autumn, a joyful and gourmet celebration of the end of the grape harvest.
The festival program begins on Saturday morning with a commented walk in the vineyards of Gueberschwihr, from 9:30 am to 11 am. Guided by the village winegrowers, participants discover the plots during the harvest, witness the picking of the grapes and the making of the grape juice. This educational walk allows visitors to understand the work of the vines, the cycle of the seasons, and the specificities of the Alsatian grape varieties grown on the limestone and marl soils of the hillside. Prior registration is recommended for this guided tour, which offers direct and authentic contact with the wine world.
The highlight of the festival is the tasting of new wine accompanied by foie gras, hosted by winegrowers Marcel Metzler (Domaine Canoie) and Matthieu Weck (Domaine Clément et Matthieu Weck). On Saturday late afternoon and Sunday at noon, these wine artisans present the first juices of the harvest — these young, fruity, and lively wines that reveal the first promises of the upcoming vintage. The pairing with Alsatian foie gras enhances the tasting, creating a typically Alsatian marriage of flavors between sweetness and character.
On Saturday evening, a dinner of wood-fired tarte flambée brings guests together in a warm and festive atmosphere, by reservation. Throughout the weekend, the caterer Dischinger from Munster provides catering with a menu of Alsatian specialties: "Nussa, Neija Siessa und Spack" — walnuts, new wine, and lard — regional dishes, and autumn delicacies. These seasonal dishes, enjoyed outdoors in the town hall square lined with winegrowers' houses, embody the Alsatian art of living in its most authentic and generous form.
Musical entertainment accompanies the two days of celebration, with an aperitif concert on Sunday inviting visitors to extend the pleasure of tasting with music. The atmosphere is that of a village festival in the noblest sense of the term: simple, warm, and open to all. The winegrowers of Gueberschwihr welcome visitors with the generosity that characterizes Alsatian wine festivals, sharing their passion for wine and the land in a setting that has preserved its authenticity far from mass tourism.
Visiting Gueberschwihr for the Fête du Vin Nouveau means discovering the Alsace Wine Route in its most splendid autumn colors. The vines are adorned with gold, copper, and purple, offering a breathtaking natural spectacle. The village, with its flowery alleys, half-timbered houses, and Romanesque heritage, is a charming stop on this legendary route that connects Marlenheim to Thann. A unique opportunity to combine oenological discovery, taste pleasures, and landscape wonder.
The Fête du Vin Nouveau de Gueberschwihr is expected on the third weekend of October 2026 on the town hall square. Walks in the vineyards, new wine tastings, tarte flambée, and musical entertainment are planned. Dates and details to be confirmed.
