From Friday, July 31 to Tuesday, August 4, 2026, Villeneuve-de-Marsan, a village in the Landes Bas-Armagnac region renowned for its bullrings and bullfighting tradition, celebrates its annual patronal festivals. Festival Bullfight — Tuesday, August 4, 2026 at 7 PM
A highlight of this edition, the mixed bullfight on Tuesday, August 4, honors French breeding: bulls from the Olivier Fernay y sus Hijas ranch (Jandilla bloodline), selected here for the first time. On the bill: matadors Antonio Ferrera and Solal, as well as French novillero Clovis. The mixed bullfight revives a format absent from the bullrings since 2011, with a prize rewarding the best banderillero.
The detailed day-by-day program will be specified by the Festival Committee closer to the event.

The Patronal Festivals of Villeneuve-de-Marsan: Gascon celebration in all its splendor
Villeneuve-de-Marsan, a commune of 2,200 inhabitants nestled in the heart of Bas-Armagnac in the Landes, celebrates its patronal festivals every first weekend of August, one of the most anticipated festive events of the summer in the Landes. For five days, from Friday to Tuesday, the village lives to the rhythm of Landes races, bullfights, bandas, and outdoor meals in an authentically Gascon atmosphere.
An exceptional bullfighting program
The Villeneuve-de-Marsan bullring hosts several taurine shows throughout the festivals. The competitive Landes races, counting towards regional rankings, are held on Sunday and Monday, featuring the best écarteurs and sauteurs of the season against cows from the most renowned ganaderías. The bullfight on Tuesday, a traditional highlight of the festivals, concludes the taurine events with a high-level spectacle. The children's bull run on Friday evening opens the festivities in a good-natured atmosphere, followed by the inter-village taurine competition.
The flower parade: Villeneuve's pride
The flower parade, a procession of floats magnificently decorated with flowers and thematic elements, is one of the most spectacular moments of the festivals. Organized on Saturday and Sunday, it winds through the village streets in an explosion of colors and creativity. Associations and age groups compete in imagination to present the most original floats, to the applause of a large and enthusiastic audience.
Sports tournaments and activities
The Villeneuve festivals are also a sporting event with the mixed touch rugby tournament, the mixed doubles tennis tournament, pétanque competitions, and the mini-quilles competition. The Barathlon, a fun race through the village bars and snack bars, has become a must-do. Children enjoy an escape game and dedicated games, while the Saturday morning walking tour allows visitors to discover the rolling landscapes of Bas-Armagnac.
Concerts, balls, and bodega evenings
The musical program sets the rhythm for each evening with free concerts on the village square. Bands like "Les Pourquoi Pas," "Space Pirates," or "Un Autre Monde" keep the party going until the early hours. The banda concert on Saturday kicks off the festive evening, while the peñas' bodegas remain open until dawn. The Pobre de mi, an emotional closing ceremony, marks the end of the festivities on Tuesday evening.
Association meals and gastronomy
The Villeneuve festivals are punctuated by large collective meals: association meals on Saturday, Peña Tachoun meal on Sunday, classes' banquet on Sunday evening, and closing meal on Tuesday. These moments of conviviality around the table are the very essence of Landes festivals, with generous Gascon menus accompanied by armagnac and Floc de Gascogne.
