The Foire aux Marrons de Creil: Over 800 Years of Tradition

The Foire aux Marrons de Creil is a historic event whose origins date back over 800 years. This centuries-old fair, one of the oldest in France, perpetuates the tradition of great autumn fairs that once marked the rhythm of the seasons and trade. Every year in early November, the town center of Creil transforms into a huge festive space to host this popular event.

Over 220 Exhibitors Ready

The Foire aux Marrons brings together over 220 exhibitors who set up in the streets and squares of Creil's town center. You can find:

  • Sales and Clearance: clothing, shoes, accessories, and various items at reduced prices
  • Crafts: local creators, jewelry, decorative items, and handmade products
  • Food: hot chestnuts of course, but also sweets, crepes, waffles, and regional specialties
  • Local Shops: the town center boutiques are open for the occasion

Entertainment and Fun

The Foire aux Marrons is not just about commerce; it's also a time for celebration and entertainment for the whole family:

  • Rides and Fairground Attractions: Ferris wheel, bumper cars, carousels, and skill games
  • Street Entertainment: shows, music, and a festive atmosphere
  • Food Trucks: varied food options to enjoy on-site
  • Grand Raffle: a game of chance with attractive prizes to be won

Chestnuts, the Stars of the Fair

As its name suggests, the chestnut is the undisputed star of this autumn fair. Hot chestnut vendors set up in the streets, spreading their characteristic aroma that fills the town center. Tasting roasted chestnuts is an essential ritual of this day, a symbol of autumn and conviviality.

A Unifying Event

The Foire aux Marrons is a highlight of Creil's community life. It brings together thousands of visitors from across the agglomeration and beyond, in a popular and warm atmosphere. This event contributes to the dynamism of Creil's town center and the preservation of a commercial and festive tradition rooted in the town's identity.

814th Edition in 2025

The 2025 edition marks the 814th edition of the Foire aux Marrons, testifying to the exceptional longevity of this event. Over the centuries, the fair has evolved and modernized but has retained its original spirit: that of a popular gathering celebrating autumn and the joy of being together.

Access and Transport

By car: Creil is accessible via the A1 motorway (Senlis exit) or the N16 from Paris (approx. 50 min). Free parking is available near the town center and in adjacent streets. Please note: due to the fair, many town center streets are closed to traffic. It is recommended to follow the signage put in place by the municipality and park on the outskirts of the fair perimeter.

By train: Creil station is a major rail hub, served by TER Hauts-de-France and trains from Paris-Nord (approx. 35 minutes). The town center and the fair are only a 5-minute walk from the station. This is the most convenient way to avoid traffic jams related to the event. Trains run normally on Sundays, but with reduced frequency – check schedules.

By bus: The local bus network serves Creil from neighboring towns (Senlis, Nogent-sur-Oise, Montataire). Some lines may be diverted due to the fair – consult the transport network website.
