The Grandes Fêtes de Foix have been a tradition rooted in the town's identity for decades. Every year, the first weekend of September marks the end of the Ariège summer with a big popular festival that brings together all generations. From Friday to Monday, the streets of Foix come alive with music, laughter, and lights, in an atmosphere of conviviality and sharing.

The castle fireworks, a highlight of the festivities

The highlight of the Grandes Fêtes is undoubtedly the fireworks display launched from the Comtal Castle of Foix on Friday evening at 10:30 PM. This pyrotechnic show, visible from all over the town, illuminates the silhouette of the medieval fortress and offers a magical moment to the thousands of spectators gathered on the banks of the Ariège river and in the town's squares. This fireworks display is one of the most beautiful in the region.

Orchestras, balls, and entertainment for everyone

For four days, several orchestras take turns on the town's stages for aperitif concerts from 6:30 PM to 7:30 PM and evening balls from 9:30 PM to 1 AM. The orchestras perform at the Plateau de Villote and the Halle aux Grains, offering varied repertoires ranging from French popular music to rock and current music. A parade of folk groups crosses the town center on Saturday afternoon.

Funfair and family atmosphere

The funfair sets up in the streets of Foix for the delight of families. Rides, bumper cars, candy stalls, and treats create a traditional fairground atmosphere. Children and adults alike enjoy the thrills and sweet treats – cotton candy, churros, and candy apples – that make this popular back-to-school festival so charming.
