A Festival Born of Solidarity
Haïti Fest was born in 2016 on the initiative of the association La Nouvelle Vie à Haïti, founded in February 2010 in the aftermath of the devastating earthquake that struck Haiti. Presided over by Olivier Vacandare and based at 40 rue de Noyant in Septmonts, the association has been organizing free cultural events in rural areas since its inception to promote Haitian culture and support the Fonvie home and the Chalette nutrition center in Haiti. Each year, all funds raised during the festival are sent to support and care for the most vulnerable children.
At the Foot of the Medieval Donjon
The festival takes place on the Place de la Mairie de Septmonts, at the foot of the 14th-century donjon, a spectacular vestige of the bishops of Soissons' castle, towering 43 meters high. This exceptional heritage setting, between medieval stones and greenery, gives the event a unique atmosphere. The donjon park is closed on the festival weekend, transforming the village square into an open-air festive space, accessible to all and free of charge.
World Music and Haitian Kompa
The musical programming of Haïti Fest reflects the association's spirit of openness. Concerts start in the late afternoon and continue until 2 a.m. You can discover Haitian kompa, Manding music, reggae, mixed-race songs, slam, festive rock, and world sounds, performed by committed and talented artists. The 2025 edition notably featured Abdoulaye Kouyaté, La Rime Métisse, JJEM & IZLY (Haitian kompa), and Karaboudjan.
A Family and Popular Celebration
From 2 p.m. onwards, the festivities open with children's entertainment, creative workshops, and sports activities. World food stalls offer flavors from all over the planet, while local artisans display their creations. A bar and refreshment area complete the offerings in a friendly and family atmosphere. In 2023, the festival brought together nearly 2,000 people, confirming its place in the cultural landscape of the Soissonnais and Aisne regions.
Celebration and Solidarity Combined
Haïti Fest embodies a festival model where celebration goes hand in hand with solidarity. Free entry, free parking, and accessibility for people with reduced mobility make it an event open to all. Beyond the music, it is a moment of sharing and cultural discovery that raises public awareness of the reality in Haiti while celebrating global musical and culinary diversity.
