A pioneering festival dedicated to female artists
Launched in 2005 by the City of Meaux, the Muzik'Elles festival was born from a desire to highlight women's musical creation, at a time when festival lineups were still largely dominated by male artists. The initiative, supported in collaboration with Danièle Molko, director of the Abacaba agency, immediately found its audience: from the very first editions, thousands of spectators flocked to Meaux's Scène Tauziet to discover exclusively female programming.
Over the years, Muzik'Elles has forged a strong identity, hosting the greatest voices of French and international chanson: Zazie, Véronique Sanson, Maurane, Olivia Ruiz, Amel Bent, Diam's, Nolwenn Leroy, Anggun, Ayo, Tal, Julie Zenatti, Carmen Maria Vega, Enzo Enzo, HollySiz, FM Laeti, and Juliette, among others.
A turbulent history and a revival
After a decade of success, the festival was interrupted in 2015 when Jean-François Copé, mayor of Meaux, decided to end the event for budgetary reasons. Muzik'Elles then remained dormant for several years, leaving a void in the cultural landscape of Seine-et-Marne.
The festival was revived in 2022-2023 with an ambitious program. The 2023 edition, marking the event's strong comeback, featured -M- (Matthieu Chedid), Jenifer, Adé, Suzane, and Mentissa over two evenings at the Stade Tauziet, confirming the public's attachment to this unique musical gathering.
La Scène Tauziet, an open-air setting
The festival takes place at the Stade Georges Tauziet, an open-air venue in the heart of Meaux, on the banks of the Ourcq canal. This site can accommodate several thousand spectators and offers a friendly atmosphere conducive to summer music evenings. The open-air setting, with the stage facing the audience, allows for appreciated proximity between artists and festival-goers.
A commitment to gender equality in music
Beyond its programming, Muzik'Elles carries a strong message in favor of the visibility of women in music. The festival helps to discover new female talents by programming emerging artists alongside headliners, who thus benefit from exceptional exposure. This pioneering approach has inspired other events in France and makes Muzik'Elles a committed player in cultural parity.
