Regalia: The Coronation of Kings in Light on Reims Cathedral

Since 2019, the Regalia show has illuminated the facade of Notre-Dame de Reims Cathedral in a free, immersive multimedia experience. Created by the studio Moment Factory, globally renowned for its work on Barcelona's Sagrada Familia and Montreal's Notre-Dame Basilica, Regalia has become one of Reims' must-see events, attracting tens of thousands of spectators each summer.

A Three-Act Show

The 15-minute show unfolds in three acts that retrace the rituals of a royal coronation:

  • The Eve: The anticipation and preparation before the ceremony, in a solemn atmosphere
  • The Coronation: The sacred rituals and the presentation of the regalia, the royal symbols (crown, scepter, orb)
  • The Celebration: The explosion of popular joy, with doves of light symbolizing jubilation

An Exceptional Artistic Creation

Artistic direction is by the Parisian studio Moment Factory, which designed the video imagery and special effects. The original music was composed by Guillaume Brière with the contribution of the Reims-based band The Shoes, enriched by the voices of the choir of the Maîtrise de la cathédrale de Reims, comprising over 70 choristers. The production budget reached 1.5 million euros.

An Interactive Journey Before the Show

Before each performance, spectators are invited to participate in a 10-minute interactive mobile game. By observing the architectural details of the cathedral, they answer questions projected onto the facade, thus discovering the monument's history and the narrative elements of the upcoming show.

Two Chapters: Cathedral and Basilica

Since 2021, Regalia has been presented in two chapters: the first on the facade of Notre-Dame de Reims Cathedral, the second on the Basilica of Saint-Remi. The two shows complement each other to offer a unique heritage experience, highlighting two UNESCO World Heritage sites.

Regalia — edition 2026

The 2026 season of Regalia will take place from late May to early October on the facade of Notre-Dame Cathedral and the Basilica of Saint-Remi in Reims. Free and open-access show.
