Japan Manga Wave: Japanese Culture Comes to Amiens

Since its first edition in November 2022 at the Mégacité d'Amiens, Japan Manga Wave has quickly won the hearts of Japanese culture and pop culture fans in the Hauts-de-France region. Organized by Shuriken Events, an event producer specializing in manga and pop culture conventions in France, the show offers a dense and varied program that delights both seasoned otakus and families curious to discover Japanese culture.

The convention spans two days, on the last weekend of September, in the vast halls of the Mégacité d'Amiens, an exhibition center and congress center located on Avenue de l'Hippodrome. The show is organized around several areas: manga, anime, cosplay, video games, tattoo, Asian music, and traditional Japanese culture.

Exceptional Guests and Non-Stop Entertainment

Each edition of Japan Manga Wave hosts prestigious guests from Japan and France: mangakas (manga authors), voice actors for animated series, professional cosplayers, and personalities from the world of anime and video games. Visitors can attend signing sessions, conferences, and exclusive meet-and-greets.

The entertainment program is rich:

  • Cosplay Competition: participants compete with creativity using spectacular costumes replicating their favorite characters.
  • Exhibitor Area: hundreds of stands offer figurines, manga, clothing, accessories, artworks, and handcrafted creations.
  • Demonstrations: martial arts (kendo, aikido, judo), Japanese calligraphy, origami, tea ceremony.
  • Concerts and DJ Sets: J-pop, K-pop, and Asian electro music.
  • Video Game Area: arcade machines, tournaments, and game demonstrations.
  • Exhibitions: original manga pages, contemporary Japanese art.

Mégacité d'Amiens: An Ideal Venue

The Mégacité d'Amiens, one of the largest congress and exhibition centers in northern France, offers an ideal setting to host a large-scale convention like Japan Manga Wave. Its spacious halls, modular spaces, and modern infrastructure allow for an immersive and comfortable experience for thousands of visitors.

Located near the Amiens racecourse, Mégacité is easily accessible by car from the A16 and A29 motorways, and by public transport from the city center of Amiens.

An Event That Shines Beyond Amiens

Building on its success in Amiens, Japan Manga Wave is also developing editions in other French cities — Toulouse, Caen, Valenciennes — confirming Shuriken Events' dynamism in organizing pop culture conventions in France. The Amiens edition remains the flagship event, benefiting from the historical anchoring of the event in the Picardy metropolis.

Japan Manga Wave — edition 2026

The 5th edition of Japan Manga Wave will be held in September 2026 at the Mégacité d'Amiens. The convention will offer a new weekend of immersion in Japanese culture and pop culture, with guests, cosplay competitions, exhibitors, and numerous activities.
