The jazz festival in the heart of the medieval village of Burlats
Jazz à Burlats is a jazz festival organized every summer in the medieval village of Burlats, a few kilometers from Castres in the Tarn. Driven by music enthusiasts, including former professional trumpeter Pascal Martin, this summer event offers open-air jazz concerts in an exceptional heritage setting, on the banks of the Agout and in the shade of the Romanesque remains of the priory of Saint-Pierre. An intimate and warm festival that celebrates jazz in all its forms in one of the most beautiful villages in the Tarn.
The village of Burlats, nestled on the banks of the Agout about ten kilometers from Castres, is a jewel of Tarn's medieval heritage. Its Romanesque remains — the Saint-Pierre priory, the Adélaïde pavilion, the fortified towers — offer an exceptional setting for an intimate and authentic jazz festival. It is in this setting that Jazz à Burlats takes place every summer in July.
Jazz à Burlats is driven by music and jazz enthusiasts, including Pascal Martin, a former professional trumpeter who discovered the trumpet at the age of 8 at the Mazamet music school. With his experience in the world of jazz and live music, he contributed to the creation of this festival in the village of Burlats, convinced that the beauty of the place and the human warmth of the Tarn offered an ideal breeding ground for quality jazz concerts.
The festival offers open-air jazz concerts over two days in July, in emblematic locations of the village. The natural acoustics of the squares and gardens of Burlats, the murmur of the Agout below, and the mild summer evenings create a unique atmosphere conducive to listening and musical sharing. Traditional jazz, swing, bebop, gypsy jazz, fusion jazz: the festival celebrates the genre in all its diversity, welcoming local, regional, and national musicians.
Burlats is recognized as one of the most beautiful villages in the Tarn, with its rich Romanesque and medieval heritage. The village hosts cultural events throughout the year, including the famous medieval festival Adélaïde et ses troubadours. Jazz à Burlats is part of this cultural dynamic, contributing to the tourist appeal and artistic influence of this characteristic village, at the gates of the Montagne Noire and the Sidobre.
