The major event for rose enthusiasts in the Oise
Every year, on the second weekend of June, the Domaine de Chaalis opens its doors to rose lovers. This former 12th-century royal abbey, located in Fontaine-Chaalis in the Oise, houses a rose garden classified as a Remarkable Garden which provides the ideal setting for these days dedicated to the queen of flowers.
Around 130 exhibitors from all over France set up in the grounds of the estate to share their passion. Rose growers, nurserymen, landscapers, artisans, and garden specialists offer rare and common varieties, gardening tools, specialized books, and artisanal creations inspired by the rose.
Each edition is placed under the patronage of a personality from the world of culture, science, or botany. In 2025, historian Michel Pastoureau was the patron of the 24th edition dedicated to the theme “The Rose and Color”. This patronage brings an intellectual and cultural dimension to the event.
The Journées de la Rose offer a program of conferences led by specialists in botany, garden history, and floral art. Practical workshops allow visitors to learn pruning, cutting, and floral arrangement techniques.
The rose garden of the Domaine de Chaalis, classified as a Remarkable Garden, is the natural setting for the event. Created at the beginning of the 20th century, it houses an exceptional collection of old and modern roses, organized into thematic beds in a landscape of great elegance.
Beyond the rose garden, visitors can discover the Domaine de Chaalis as a whole: the remains of the Cistercian abbey, the Jacquemart-André museum and its art collections, the 80-hectare landscaped park, and the Sainte-Marie chapel adorned with frescoes by Primaticcio. Exceptional heritage that enriches the visitor experience.
In 2026, the Journées de la Rose will celebrate their 25th anniversary, an exceptional edition that promises to celebrate a quarter of a century of passion for the rose in this exceptional place.
25th edition of the Journées de la Rose at Domaine de Chaalis, from Friday, June 12 to Sunday, June 14, 2026, from 10 am to 6 pm. Under the theme « The Rose and the Stars », the anniversary edition is sponsored by astrophysicist Françoise Combes, member of the Academy of Sciences. Nearly 150 exhibitors — horticulturists, nurserymen, rose growers, artists, and craftspeople — take over the former royal abbey and its rose garden, classified as a Remarkable Garden.
In 2026, the Journées de la Rose at Domaine de Chaalis celebrate their 25th anniversary. Since 2001, on the second weekend of June, the 12th-century former royal abbey welcomes nearly 15,000 visitors who come to celebrate the queen of flowers in an exceptional heritage setting.
This anniversary edition explores the sensitive and scientific links between plants and the cosmos. It celebrates both the beauty of life and the infinity of the universe, reminding us that the contemplation of a flower can be as dizzying as that of a starry sky.
Astrophysicist Françoise Combes, member of the Academy of Sciences and professor at the Collège de France, sponsors this 25th edition. A recognized specialist in galaxy dynamics, she brings an unprecedented scientific dimension to an event traditionally dedicated to gardens.
For this anniversary edition, nearly 150 exhibitors — rose growers, nurserymen, horticulturists, landscapers, artists, and art craftspeople — set up in the estate's pathways. Rare varieties and collections of old roses, gardening tools, specialized books, artisanal creations inspired by the rose: the rose garden in full bloom becomes the stage for a grand botanical celebration.
Throughout the weekend, conferences led by specialists in botany, gardens, and floral art punctuate the event, addressing topics such as roses in the garden and alternatives to pesticides. Practical workshops and exhibitions complete the program within the abbey and rose garden.
Beyond the Journées de la Rose, visitors can enjoy the entire Domaine de Chaalis: the remains of the Cistercian abbey, the Jacquemart-André Museum of Chaalis and its art collections, the landscaped park, and the Sainte-Marie chapel adorned with frescoes by Primatice.
