Astronomy Accessible to All on the Millevaches Plateau
Organized by the Club d'Astronomie de Haute-Corrèze in partnership with the town of Meymac, the Millevaches Regional Natural Park, and the Institut d'Astrophysique de Paris, L'Astrofête du Plateau de Millevaches is a major scientific and educational event in Corrèze.
Taking advantage of the low light pollution of the Millevaches Plateau, the festival offers exceptional conditions for observing the starry sky. For two days, amateur astronomers, professional astrophysicists, and the general public come together to share their passion for the stars and the universe.
Observations, Lectures, and Scientific Activities
The Astrofête offers a rich and varied program: solar observations in the afternoon at Mont-Bessou (4 PM-7 PM), scientific lectures led by astrophysicists from the Institut d'Astrophysique de Paris (2 PM-9 PM), and night observations with telescopes (10 PM-12:30 AM).
The lectures cover current scientific topics: exoplanets, the EUCLID satellite, the formation of planetary systems, and the possibility of extraterrestrial life. Five professional astrophysicists share their research with the public in accessible language.
Exhibitions and Fun Activities
The festival also features photographic exhibitions, information booths on the EUCLID satellite and space missions, water rockets, constellation games, and an outdoor treasure hunt at Lac de la Garenne to discover the starry sky in a fun way.
Activities are adapted for all ages, from curious children to seasoned enthusiasts. Free admission.
