Astronomy and Science Festival on the Millevaches Plateau
Organized by the Club d'Astronomie de Haute-Corrèze in partnership with the town of Meymac, the Millevaches Regional Natural Park, and the Institut d'Astrophysique de Paris, L'Astrofête du Plateau de Millevaches is a major scientific and educational event in Corrèze.
Taking advantage of the low light pollution of the Millevaches Plateau, the festival offers exceptional conditions for observing the starry sky. For two days, amateur astronomers, professional astrophysicists, and the general public come together to share their passion for the stars and the universe.
The Astrofête offers a rich and varied program: solar observations in the afternoon at Mont-Bessou (4 PM-7 PM), scientific lectures led by astrophysicists from the Institut d'Astrophysique de Paris (2 PM-9 PM), and night observations with telescopes (10 PM-12:30 AM).
The lectures cover current scientific topics: exoplanets, the EUCLID satellite, the formation of planetary systems, and the possibility of extraterrestrial life. Five professional astrophysicists share their research with the public in accessible language.
The festival also features photographic exhibitions, information booths on the EUCLID satellite and space missions, water rockets, constellation games, and an outdoor treasure hunt at Lac de la Garenne to discover the starry sky in a fun way.
Activities are adapted for all ages, from curious children to seasoned enthusiasts. Free admission.
The Astrofête du Plateau de Millevaches 2026 will be held on July 3rd and 4th, 2026 in Meymac (Corrèze), on the theme « The secret messengers of the cosmos ». Two free days of astronomy with Sun observations, conferences by astrophysicists from the Paris Institute of Astrophysics, activities, and observation of the starry sky through telescopes.
The Astrofête du Plateau de Millevaches returns on July 3rd and 4th, 2026 in Meymac for a new edition dedicated to astronomy and universe sciences, on the theme « The secret messengers of the cosmos ». The event is co-organized by the Paris Institute of Astrophysics (IAP), Meymac town hall, and the Haute-Corrèze Astronomy Club.
On the program: solar observations in the early afternoon, international-level conferences and documentaries led by IAP astrophysicists, and nocturnal observations with telescopes to discover the starry sky. The 2026 edition notably features a 3D projection of aurora borealis, as well as numerous family activities: stands, water rockets, games around constellations.
Admission and all activities are free. The detailed program (conference titles and speakers) will be specified by the organizers closer to the event on the Haute-Corrèze Astronomy Club website.
