La Cafetière: An Unfiltered Festival in the Verdun Region
La Cafetière – Festival sans filtre is a multidisciplinary cultural event organized by the MJC Contre-Courant in Belleville-sur-Meuse, an establishment labeled Scène de Musiques Actuelles (SMAC). Every autumn, for three days in November, the festival takes over several towns in the Verdun region to offer a rich and eclectic program, accessible to all audiences.
A Multidisciplinary Program
The festival lives up to its name: unfiltered, it boldly mixes artistic disciplines to offer a complete and surprising cultural experience:
- Theater: Shows by professional companies, street theater, and stage performances.
- Storytelling: Narratives and stories presented by storytellers for young and old.
- New Circus: Acrobatics, juggling, aerial arts, and contemporary circus creations.
- Music: Brass bands, concerts, and musical performances in various formats.
- Young Audience: Shows and activities specially designed for children and families.
A Traveling Festival Across the Region
One of La Cafetière's strengths lies in its territorial anchoring. The shows take place in several towns around Verdun: Belleville-sur-Meuse, Verdun, Billemont, Belleray, Béthincourt, and Thierville-sur-Meuse. This itinerant approach brings culture closer to the residents and revitalizes the venues and public spaces of the region.
MJC Contre-Courant: A Major Cultural Player
La Cafetière is one of the highlights of the cultural season for Contre-Courant MJC, which works throughout the year to promote contemporary music and performing arts in the Nord Meusien region. As a SMAC, the establishment receives support from the Ministry of Culture and plays an essential role in the cultural animation of the Grand Verdun.
A Friendly and Accessible Festival
True to the spirit of the MJC, La Cafetière cultivates a warm and friendly atmosphere. The festival is designed to be accessible to as many people as possible, with moderate prices and a program that appeals to all ages. The three days of the festival are an opportunity to discover emerging artists and established companies in an intimate and welcoming setting.
