About Course du Viaduc

The Eiffage Viaduct de Millau Race is a unique sporting event that allows runners to cross on foot the famous Viaduc de Millau, an architectural masterpiece designed by Norman Foster and built by Eiffage. Created in 2007, it offers a historic 23.7 km route with a 390 m positive elevation gain — and, since 2026, a new, more accessible 12.8 km route. Runners tread the A75 motorway suspended 270 meters above the Tarn valley, with breathtaking panoramas over the Grands Causses. Each edition brings together thousands of runners from all over France and abroad to experience this extraordinary moment.

A legendary race on an exceptional structure

Created in 2007, the Course Eiffage du Viaduc de Millau was born from a bold idea: to open the world's highest road bridge, inaugurated in December 2004, to runners. 2,460 meters long and culminating at 343 meters above the Tarn, the viaduct designed by architect Norman Foster and engineer Michel Virlogeux is a masterpiece of engineering. Crossing this structure on foot, on the A75 motorway exceptionally closed to traffic, constitutes a unique experience in the world that only the participants of this race can have.

A 23.7 km course between town and viaduct

The 23.7 kilometer course with 390 meters of positive elevation gain offers a wide variety of landscapes:

  • Km 0 to 5: Start from the town center of Millau, flat section along the Tarn with a festive atmosphere supported by the public.
  • Km 5 to 10: Gradual ascent in switchbacks under the monumental piers of the viaduct, with striking views of the structure gradually revealing itself.
  • Km 10 to 15: The long-awaited moment — crossing the viaduct 270 meters above the Tarn, with 4,920 meters on the bridge deck and breathtaking panoramas of the Causses and the valley.
  • Km 15 to 23.7: Descent through the Causse Rouge to the finish line at the Parc de la Victoire in Millau.

A popular and inclusive event

The Course Eiffage du Viaduc de Millau is distinguished by its popular and festive character. Open to all levels, it welcomes both experienced runners and occasional joggers, as well as wheelchair athletes. More than 900 volunteers supervise the event, and three refreshment points mark the course. The atmosphere is fueled by musical entertainment and a large crowd gathered along the course and on the viaduct. The finish at the Parc de la Victoire culminates in a friendly celebration bringing together runners, families, and spectators.

Millau, capital of nature sports

Millau, a sub-prefecture of Aveyron nestled at the confluence of the Tarn and the Dourbie, is a major center for outdoor sports: paragliding, climbing, canoeing, trail running, and hiking. The Viaduct Race is part of this sporting dynamic that makes Millau a must-visit destination for outdoor thrill-seekers, in the heart of the Parc naturel régional des Grands Causses.

Course du Viaduc — edition 2026

The 8th edition of the Eiffage Millau Viaduct Race will take place on Sunday, September 13, 2026, with a start at 9:00 AM from Boulevard de l'Ayrolle, in Millau city center. To celebrate the 20th anniversary of the viaduct, the 2026 edition offers two distances: the historic 23.7 km course (390 m positive elevation gain) and a new 12.8 km course accessible to the widest audience. In both cases, runners cross the viaduct deck on foot, 270 meters above the Tarn valley, on the A75 motorway, which will be exceptionally closed to traffic. Registrations open since January 6, 2026, on the Njuko platform.

8th edition — Sunday, September 13, 2026

The 8th edition of the Eiffage Millau Viaduct Race is confirmed for Sunday, September 13, 2026. The start is at 9:00 AM from Boulevard de l'Ayrolle (at the wash house), in Millau city center. The A75 motorway will be exceptionally closed to traffic from 9:00 AM to 12:40 PM to allow the viaduct to be crossed on foot.

Two distances for the viaduct's 20th anniversary

To mark the 20th anniversary of the structure, the 2026 edition offers two courses:

  • 23.7 km (390 m D+) — the historic course: start from the city center, climb under the viaduct's piers, cross the deck, then loop through the Causse before arriving at Parc de la Victoire.
  • 12.8 km — a new, more accessible out-and-back course on the viaduct, with a shuttle return. Time barrier for the U-turn on the viaduct (km 12.8) set at 11:50 AM.

In both cases, runners cover approximately 5 km on the bridge deck, 270 meters above the Tarn.

Registrations and conditions

Registrations have been open since January 6, 2026, on the Njuko platform. Given the success of previous editions (more than 7,400 finishers in 2024), spots fill up quickly.
