Run on the highest bridge in Europe above the Tarn
The Eiffage Viaduct de Millau Race is a unique sporting event that allows runners to cross on foot the famous Viaduc de Millau, an architectural masterpiece designed by Norman Foster and built by Eiffage. Created in 2007, it offers a historic 23.7 km route with a 390 m positive elevation gain — and, since 2026, a new, more accessible 12.8 km route. Runners tread the A75 motorway suspended 270 meters above the Tarn valley, with breathtaking panoramas over the Grands Causses. Each edition brings together thousands of runners from all over France and abroad to experience this extraordinary moment.
Created in 2007, the Course Eiffage du Viaduc de Millau was born from a bold idea: to open the world's highest road bridge, inaugurated in December 2004, to runners. 2,460 meters long and culminating at 343 meters above the Tarn, the viaduct designed by architect Norman Foster and engineer Michel Virlogeux is a masterpiece of engineering. Crossing this structure on foot, on the A75 motorway exceptionally closed to traffic, constitutes a unique experience in the world that only the participants of this race can have.
The 23.7 kilometer course with 390 meters of positive elevation gain offers a wide variety of landscapes:
The Course Eiffage du Viaduc de Millau is distinguished by its popular and festive character. Open to all levels, it welcomes both experienced runners and occasional joggers, as well as wheelchair athletes. More than 900 volunteers supervise the event, and three refreshment points mark the course. The atmosphere is fueled by musical entertainment and a large crowd gathered along the course and on the viaduct. The finish at the Parc de la Victoire culminates in a friendly celebration bringing together runners, families, and spectators.
Millau, a sub-prefecture of Aveyron nestled at the confluence of the Tarn and the Dourbie, is a major center for outdoor sports: paragliding, climbing, canoeing, trail running, and hiking. The Viaduct Race is part of this sporting dynamic that makes Millau a must-visit destination for outdoor thrill-seekers, in the heart of the Parc naturel régional des Grands Causses.
The 8th edition of the Eiffage Millau Viaduct Race will take place on Sunday, September 13, 2026, with a start at 9:00 AM from Boulevard de l'Ayrolle, in Millau city center. To celebrate the 20th anniversary of the viaduct, the 2026 edition offers two distances: the historic 23.7 km course (390 m positive elevation gain) and a new 12.8 km course accessible to the widest audience. In both cases, runners cross the viaduct deck on foot, 270 meters above the Tarn valley, on the A75 motorway, which will be exceptionally closed to traffic. Registrations open since January 6, 2026, on the Njuko platform.
