The event features two distances, a 5 km and a 10 km, on a looped urban circuit that starts on Avenue Paul-Marchandeau, crosses the Pont de Venise, follows the canal, and takes runners over the cobblestones of the Notre-Dame Cathedral square and the Place Royale before returning to Avenue Paul-Marchandeau. With 9,000 race bibs available and tens of thousands of spectators lining the route, it is the most anticipated running event in the City of Coronations.
Foulée des Sacres — edition 2026
The 14th edition of La Foulée des Sacres by McDonald's takes place on Sunday, June 14, 2026, in Reims. The start and finish lines are located on Avenue Paul-Marchandeau, with a 5 km race at 9:30 AM and a 10 km race at 11:00 AM. The urban course crosses the Pont de Venise, runs along the canal, and takes runners over the cobblestones of the Notre-Dame Cathedral square and the Place Royale. Organized by SCAP 18, the running section of the local fire department, in partnership with the City of Reims, the event offers 9,000 race bibs and expects a record turnout of nearly 9,000 participants.
2026 Edition — The 14th Foulée des Sacres
La Foulée des Sacres returns to the streets of Reims on Sunday, June 14, 2026, for its 14th edition. Organized by SCAP 18—the running club for firefighters from Reims and the surrounding department—in close collaboration with the City of Reims, the event is officially titled "La Foulée des Sacres by McDonald's" and maintains its two classic formats: 5 km and 10 km.
Two Starts, Two Distances
Both races begin on Avenue Paul-Marchandeau, right next to the Reims-Marchandeau fire station. The 5 km race starts at 9:30 AM and consists of a single loop, open to participants from the U16 category (born in 2011 or 2012) with parental consent. The 10 km race kicks off at 11:00 AM, covering two 5 km loops, and is open to those from the U18 category (born in 2009 or 2010). The finish line for both distances is on Avenue Paul-Marchandeau. To minimize traffic disruption, the time limit is set at 1 hour for the 5 km and 1 hour 30 minutes for the 10 km.
A Cobblestone Route at the Foot of the Cathedral
The course is entirely urban. From Avenue Paul-Marchandeau, runners cross the Pont de Venise, head down Avenue Paul-Doumer, follow the canal, join Rue Libergier, and tackle the cobblestones of the Notre-Dame Cathedral square and the Place Royale. The route then passes the City Hall square and Rue Voltaire before heading back via the Voie des Sacres and Rue de Venise to the finish line. With false flats, sharp turns, and a few sets of stairs, the course is not suitable for handisport categories.
Registration, Bibs, and Awards
Registration is available exclusively online at the official website, foulee-des-sacres.fr. A medical certificate less than a year old stating "fit for competitive running," a valid PPS (Prevention Santé) certificate less than three months old, or a current FFA license is mandatory. All participants receive a collector's t-shirt and medal. Bib pickup takes place in the courtyard of the Reims-Marchandeau fire station (49 Chaussée Bocquaine) on Wednesday, June 10, from 11:00 AM to 7:00 PM, and Saturday, June 13, from 1:30 PM to 6:00 PM, as well as at the René Tys parking lot on Sunday, June 14, from 8:00 AM to 10:00 AM. The awards ceremony begins at 12:30 PM at the René Tys parking lot, honoring the top three male and female finishers in the 5 km, and the top three overall plus the winner of each age category (from U18 to Master 9) in the 10 km.
A Popular Celebration
La Foulée des Sacres is Reims' most anticipated running event. The 14th edition brings together nearly 9,000 runners—an increase of 2,600 from the previous year—with 8,738 officially timed participants (4,462 men and 4,276 women), marking a rare near-parity between genders. Around 10,000 spectators are expected to line the route. Food and refreshments are provided by the SCAP 18 stand at the René Tys parking lot and partner Champagne Charles Heston, with emergency services managed by the Civil Protection.

La Foulée des Sacres: Running on the cathedral's cobblestones
La Foulée des Sacres is the must-attend running event in Reims. Spearheaded by SCAP 18—the running section of the Reims and regional fire departments—in collaboration with the City of Reims, it immerses participants in a unique atmosphere that blends ancient heritage with a festive community spirit. It is sponsored by McDonald's, whose name is part of the event's official title.
A route at the heart of history
The course is entirely urban. Starting from Avenue Paul-Marchandeau, near the Reims-Marchandeau fire station, runners cross the Pont de Venise, take Avenue Paul-Doumer, follow the canal, join Rue Libergier, and tackle the cobblestones of the UNESCO World Heritage Notre-Dame Cathedral square and the Place Royale. They then pass through the City Hall square and Rue Voltaire before heading back down the Voie des Sacres and Rue de Venise to the finish line on Avenue Paul-Marchandeau. Two distances are offered: a 5 km loop and a 10 km race consisting of two identical laps. False flats, changes in pace, and cobblestones make this circuit more challenging than its urban profile suggests.
A popular and charitable event
La Foulée des Sacres is more than just a sports competition; it is a moment of conviviality at the heart of the city. Organized by firefighters, it mobilizes Marne fire stations, the Civil Protection for medical support, and a long list of local partners—including Champagne FM, the Marne SDIS, Nissan, Crédit Agricole Nord Est, Urban Nature, and the Champagne Charles Heston house, which hosts a catering stand alongside SCAP 18.
A race open to everyone
Whether you are an experienced runner or a casual jogger, La Foulée des Sacres welcomes all profiles. The 5 km is open to participants from the U16 category, and the 10 km from the U18 category (with parental consent for minors). All registered runners receive a t-shirt and a collector's medal. Due to a few sets of stairs on the route, the event is not accessible to para-athletes.
An annual highlight
La Foulée des Sacres takes place in the spring or early summer, drawing thousands of participants from across the region and beyond. The 14th edition set a record with nearly 9,000 runners at the start—3,000 for the 5 km and 6,000 for the 10 km—with a nearly equal split between men and women. Tens of thousands of spectators crowd the course, creating an electric and warm atmosphere that makes the race a standout event in the Reims sports calendar.
