La Hague en Musiques: Musical Excellence by the Sea
Since 2012, the La Hague en Musiques festival has offered an exceptional musical interlude every summer in one of Normandy's most spectacular landscapes. Nestled between the granite cliffs of La Hague and the wild beaches of the Cotentin, this festival combines artistic excellence and natural beauty to offer a unique experience to its audience.
Frédéric Lagarde's Vision
The festival was born from the passion and vision of pianist Frédéric Lagarde, First Prize winner of the Conservatoire National Supérieur de Musique de Paris and laureate of ten international competitions, cited by the press as one of the most talented French pianists of his generation. Under his artistic direction, La Hague en Musiques has established itself as a must-attend event for chamber music and classical repertoire in Normandy.
A Program Balancing Tradition and Openness
Each edition brings together about fifteen top international artists—soloists, chamber musicians, ensembles—alongside promising young talents. The resolutely eclectic program emphasizes the great classical repertoire while also embracing flamenco, Spanish music, contemporary creations, and musical tales for young audiences. Tributes to great composers like Ravel, Debussy, and Chopin are a hallmark of the festival.
Exceptional Venues
Concerts take place in several towns in La Hague and the Cotentin: Les Pieux, Flamanville, Beaumont-Hague, Siouville-Hague, and their surroundings. Historic churches, heritage halls, and unusual venues host the musicians, creating a rare intimacy between artists and the audience. The proximity to the sea and the grand landscapes of the coast add a unique sensory dimension to the musical experience.
An Accessible and Generous Festival
La Hague en Musiques is committed to making great music accessible to as many people as possible, with moderate prices and free events for young audiences. The festival contributes to the cultural influence of the Cotentin and the tourist appeal of the Hague peninsula.
