Château des Livres — edition 2026

The 4th edition of the Château des Livres takes place on Saturday, June 6 and Sunday, June 7, 2026 at the Château de Mareuil-sur-Cher (Loir-et-Cher), from 10:00 AM to 6:00 PM. This free literary fair brings together 27 authors around La Bouinotte publishing house, guest of honor, and marks the launch of the Éric Yung literary prize dedicated to crime fiction, with Florence Yung and Christian Rauth as godmother and godfather.

A 4th edition under the sign of local heritage and crime fiction

For its fourth consecutive edition, the Château des Livres takes over the rooms and gardens of the Château de Mareuil-sur-Cher on Saturday, June 6 and Sunday, June 7, 2026, from 10:00 AM to 6:00 PM. Twenty-seven authors will gather there for two days of signings, meetings, and discussions around all literary genres: local heritage, novel, history, romance, manga, crime fiction, and speculative fiction.

La Bouinotte, guest of honor

La Bouinotte publishing house, a regional Berrichonne publisher dedicated to promoting the local heritage of Centre-Val de Loire, is the guest of honor for this 2026 edition. This spotlight is part of the association's desire to promote local literary heritage and voices connected to the region.

Launch of the Éric Yung literary prize

A highlight of this 4th edition, the fair hosts the official launch of the Éric Yung literary prize, created by the association in homage to the late journalist and novelist, a historical patron of the fair. This prize, aimed at promoting authors of crime and detective novels, is supported by a jury chaired by Danielle Thierry, divisional commissioner and novelist, with Florence Yung and Christian Rauth (actor and novelist, notably known for PJ) as godmother and godfather. The winning manuscript will be published by La Bouinotte publishing house. The call for manuscripts will officially open during the fair, from June 1st to December 31st, 2026.

Conference and activities

On Saturday, June 6 at 3:30 PM, former criminal lawyer Jean-Michel Sieklucki will hold a conference dedicated to three judicial cases that marked Touraine in the 19th and 20th centuries, including the famous "Dépeceuse" (Flayer) case. Throughout the weekend, Cultura Blois will host creative workshops open to both children and parents, continuing the family-friendly program that has characterized the fair since its inception.

A free and friendly event

As every year, admission to the fair is completely free. Visitors can purchase books on site from partner booksellers and have them immediately signed by the attending authors. A refreshment stand and light catering complete the offer for a literary weekend to be enjoyed in an exceptional heritage setting, between vineyards and the Cher valley.

Le Château des Livres: Literature Celebrated in the Heart of the Val de Cher

Born in 2023 from the desire of a handful of enthusiasts united within the association Le Château des Livres, this literary fair has found its natural setting in the Château de Mareuil-sur-Cher, a historic residence nestled in the Cher valley, between vineyards and Sologne forests. The founding ambition is simple and generous: to offer a space for direct interaction between authors and readers in an intimate heritage setting, far from the major Parisian fairs, and to contribute to the cultural vibrancy of a rural territory rich in its heritage.

A General Fair Celebrating Literary Diversity

Each edition brings together about thirty authors with varied universes—novels, thrillers, children's literature, comics, poetry, essays, historical accounts, and illustrated books—for two days of signings, meetings, and exchanges with the public. The fair is distinguished by its friendly and warm atmosphere: authors are set up in the castle's rooms and gardens, offering visitors a literary discovery trail through the rooms and shaded paths.

The program includes themed conferences, round tables hosted by writers and book world specialists, as well as activities for young audiences: writing workshops, storytelling sessions, literary games, and meetings with illustrators. Live performances—musical readings, theatrical storytelling—punctuate the two days and add an artistic dimension to the event.

Strong Territorial Roots

Organized in partnership with the municipality of Mareuil-sur-Cher and the Val de Cher Controis community of communes, Le Château des Livres is part of a dynamic of valuing local heritage and the cultural development of the territory. The third edition, in 2025, put women in the spotlight and offered a family show in addition to the traditional signing sessions.

The fair benefits from the support of independent booksellers from the region who operate a pop-up bookstore on-site, allowing visitors to purchase the authors' works and have them signed immediately. A refreshment stand and light catering complete the offering for a convivial literary weekend.

A Free Event Open to All

Admission to the fair is completely free, in line with the association's mission to make literature accessible to the greatest number. Le Château des Livres attracts a family and intergenerational audience each year, loyal and curious, who appreciate the unique blend of architectural heritage, literary discovery, and village atmosphere.
