Le Roi Arthur: An Epic Sound and Light Show at Meneham

On the spectacular site of Meneham, an ancient seaweed gatherer village nestled among the granite rocks of the Legends Coast in Kerlouan, the Ar Vro Bagan company deploys a large-scale sound and light show every summer. Le Roi Arthur (Ar Roue Arzhur in Breton) is the latest creation of this professional theater troupe founded in 1973, which has been perpetuating the tradition of live performance in the Breton language for over fifty years.

The Arthurian Epic Revisited

Written and directed by Goulc'han Kervella, artistic director of Ar Vro Bagan, the show transports spectators to the early 6th century, in insular Brittany (Wales, Cornwall) and Armorica. The power of King Arthur is weakened by enemy attacks and internal rivalries. His famous knights then set off in search of the Magic Cauldron of the ancient Celts, the Gundestrup cauldron, on an adventure populated by supernatural characters, fantastic creatures, and enchanted worlds.

A Total Outdoor Performance

For 2 hours and 15 minutes, over 100 actors and extras, professionals and amateurs, bring this epic fresco to life on natural terrain at the foot of the great guardhouse rock of Meneham. Special effects, pyrotechnics, light projections, dances, choreographed fights, and original music create a total show, bilingual French-Breton, accessible to all audiences. The wild and mineral setting of Meneham, facing the ocean, adds a magical dimension to the experience.

Ar Vro Bagan: Breton Theatre Since 1973

The company Strollad Ar Vro Bagan (the Pagan Country Troupe) was founded in 1973 within the Ar Vro Bagan Cultural Center, created in 1965. A professional troupe with 7 permanent members and about ten temporary workers, it works for Breton culture and language through theater, shows for young audiences, and large outdoor summer creations that have made its reputation.
