Classical and World Music Festival in the Heart of Cotentin
Since 1987, Les Concerts en Valognais have been resonating classical, jazz, and world music in the historic churches and residences of Valognes and its surroundings. Founded by Colette Pariot, this festival is supported by the Association culturelle de Valognes and has established itself over the decades as a leading musical event in Cotentin.
One of the festival's unique features is the choice of its concert venues. Musicians perform in the churches of Valognes and surrounding towns — Rocheville, Colomby, Brix, Négreville, Sottevast, Tamerville, Montaigu-la-Brisette, Yvetot-Bocage, Saint-Sauveur-le-Vicomte — as well as in private residences usually closed to the public. These heritage settings offer remarkable acoustics and an intimate atmosphere conducive to listening.
The program of Les Concerts en Valognais mixes classical, baroque, jazz, and world music with a constant concern for quality and diversity. The 37th edition in 2025 featured the A'dam Vocal Quartet, Trio Zarafa and Mescla, jazz saxophonist Louis Sclavis, Duo Néféli, and Trio Sora. The 38th edition in 2026 will feature Déborah Nemtanu and Pierre Cussac (violin and accordion), Fanny Ménégoz's quartet with jazz, Into The Winds with medieval and Renaissance instruments, the Octuor Cello 8, and Fanny Azzuro on piano.
Les Concerts en Valognais is more than just a music festival: it contributes to the enhancement of the architectural and cultural heritage of Cotentin. By occupying rarely accessible venues, the festival invites the public to discover the rich built heritage of the region while listening to talented artists. This dual dimension — musical and heritage — makes Les Concerts en Valognais a unique event in Normandy.
The 38th edition of Concerts en Valognais takes place from Friday, July 3 to Tuesday, July 7, 2026 in Valognes and the municipalities of Cotentin. Five evenings, six concerts, five heritage sites and three municipalities for a musical journey between classical, jazz and world music, with Déborah Nemtanu and Pierre Cussac, Fanny Ménégoz's Nobi Quartet and Ensemble Chakâm, Into The Winds, the Cello 8 Octet directed by Raphaël Pidoux, and pianist Fanny Azzuro.
For its 38th edition, the Les Concerts en Valognais festival will take over the churches and heritage sites of Valognes, Saussemesnil and Yvetot-Bocage from July 3 to 7, 2026. The program blends chamber music, baroque, jazz and world music, faithful to the eclectic line championed by the Valognes Cultural Association.
The edition opens on Friday, July 3 at the Notre-Dame d'Alleaume church in Valognes with the duo formed by Déborah Nemtanu (violin) and Pierre Cussac (accordion) around the "Balada" program dedicated to Eastern European music. On Saturday, July 4, a double evening at the Henri-Cornat high school in Valognes with the Nobi Quartet led by flutist Fanny Ménégoz followed by the Ensemble Chakâm, blending jazz, oriental and baroque music.
On Sunday, July 5, the ensemble Into The Winds will make medieval and Renaissance instruments resonate at the church of Saussemesnil (Ruffosses). On Monday, July 6, seven young cellists from the Cello 8 Octet, directed by Raphaël Pidoux, will perform a Schubert, Saint-Saëns, Dvořák and Mahler program at the church of Yvetot-Bocage. The 38th edition closes on Tuesday, July 7 at the Saint-Malo church in Valognes with a recital by pianist Fanny Azzuro, from Chopin to Gershwin.
