Seaside street arts festival in Plougastel-Daoulas
Les Échappées is a street arts festival that takes place every summer on the beach of Porzh Gwenn in Plougastel-Daoulas. Created in 2022, this free event transforms the shore into a temporary maritime cabaret, hosting street theater companies, brass bands, and itinerant performances. From 6 PM until sunset, the public discovers the coastline from a cultural and festive angle, with a bar, food trucks, and wooden games. Free shuttles from the town center.
Since 2022, Les Échappées has offered residents of Plougastel-Daoulas and visitors a unique way to discover their coastline. This ephemeral street arts festival transforms the Porzh Gwenn beach, one of the peninsula's most beautiful beaches, into an open-air cultural stage where live performance, music, and conviviality blend.
The concept of Les Échappées is simple and appealing: every Saturday of the festival, starting at 6 PM, the beach transforms into a temporary maritime cabaret. A musical and radio caravan kicks off the festivities with sunny tunes, while early arrivals can settle at the bar, enjoy local products from selected food trucks, or take on the challenges of wooden games. Gradually, street theater companies take over the space and present their shows facing the ocean.
The 2024 edition notably featured the brass band Mighty Mambo, whose lively horns got the audience dancing on the sand, and the show "Influence" by Compagnie Les Invendus, a theatrical performance on the shore. In 2023, Fonk'Farons set the beach ablaze with their show "Sidewalk". The performances take place in the golden light of sunset, offering a natural setting of striking beauty between the sea, sky, and cliffs.
Les Échappées is an entirely free festival. To facilitate access to the site, the town hall of Plougastel-Daoulas provides a free shuttle service from the town center and park-and-ride facilities. A bar and light catering are available on-site, contributing to the friendly guinguette atmosphere that makes the event so charming.
Les Échappées is part of the dynamic cultural policy of the town of Plougastel-Daoulas, which highlights its exceptional natural assets—peninsula, rugged coastline, maritime heritage—by associating them with contemporary artistic creation. The festival benefits from the commitment of local volunteers for installation, parking management, shuttle driving, and site operation, demonstrating the population's support for this local cultural project.
