Les Échappées — edition 2026

Les Échappées turns the Porzh Gwenn beach into a cultural seaside tavern for two summer Saturdays in 2026: July 4th and July 18th, from 6:00 PM to 10:00 PM. On July 4th, the Cirque Content pour Peu will perform "Radiovolca" before the Molokoye brass band gets the sand dancing with their tropical-inspired repertoire. On July 18th, the Cie Atana presents the dance duet "Pack Back," followed by the Pili Pili brass band. Enjoy music, street performances, and brass bands overlooking the Brest roadstead. Admission is completely free, with shuttle buses available from the Plougastel town hall and park-and-ride lots.

Two Saturdays of street arts on the Porzh Gwenn beach

Now a staple of the Plougastel-Daoulas cultural calendar, Les Échappées—or "Achapedennoù" in Breton—return on Saturday, July 4th and July 18th, 2026, to transform the Porzh Gwenn beach into a vibrant cultural hub. These two free, open-to-all evenings run from 6:00 PM to 10:00 PM, featuring brass bands, music, and street arts against the backdrop of the Brest roadstead. The atmosphere is relaxed and family-friendly: come by for an aperitif, settle into the sand, and follow the performers as the sun sets.

July 4th: "Radiovolca" and the Molokoye brass band

The first evening kicks off with "Radiovolca" by Cirque Content pour Peu. Based in Saint-Thois in Finistère since 2012, the company founded by Loïse Manuel and Hugo Marchand aims to introduce contemporary circus to all audiences. Their work blends tightrope, aerial rope, and acrobatic lifts with a burlesque, poetic flair and a touch of tender irony. The Molokoye brass band then takes over the beach with a tropical-infused repertoire that makes it impossible to stay still.

July 18th: "Pack Back" and the Pili Pili brass band

The second event features "Pack Back," a duet by Compagnie Atana led by choreographer and dancer Angéla Urien. Combining contemporary dance, hip-hop, and theater, this 30-minute show follows two backpackers traveling the world to the rhythm of global music. It is a funny, festive, and touching journey exploring the cultures, rules, and wonders encountered along the way. The Pili Pili brass band closes the night with their eclectic mix of music and dance, performing both in a fixed spot and wandering along the beach.

A free, family-friendly seaside tavern

Both evenings are free to attend. Refreshments and food are available on-site, including food trucks, wooden games, face painting, and storytelling for children. Free shuttle buses run from the Plougastel town hall and park-and-ride lots to help prevent congestion near the beach. In case of bad weather, the organizers plan to move the event to the Espace Avel Vor, the local performance venue that co-hosts the event with the City. Every year, Les Échappées relies on volunteers for setup, parking management, the refreshment stand, and shuttle operations.

Les Échappées: Plougastel's coastline takes center stage

Since 2022, Les Échappées—known as Achapedennoù in Breton—have offered residents of Plougastel-Daoulas and visitors a unique way to explore their coastline. This ephemeral street arts festival transforms the Porzh Gwenn beach, one of the peninsula's most beautiful spots, into an open-air cultural stage where live performance, music, and community spirit come together.

A cultural seaside guinguette

The concept is simple and charming: on two or three summer Saturdays, starting at 6:00 PM, the beach is transformed into a cultural guinguette. Early arrivals can grab a drink at the bar, explore the food trucks set up on the sand, or try their hand at wooden games, while children enjoy face painting and storytelling. Then, street theater troupes take over the space to perform against the backdrop of the ocean, before a brass band gets the beach dancing until 10:00 PM.

Brass bands, circus, and street theater

The program always pairs a performance with a brass band each evening. It features both Breton troupes and artists from further afield: circus, dance, street theater, and roving music follow one another in the golden light of sunset, between sea, sky, and cliffs. The short format and free access make it perfect for families, with no need for reservations or strict schedules.

A free and accessible event

Les Échappées is completely free of charge. To make getting to the site easier, the City of Plougastel-Daoulas provides free shuttles from the town hall and park-and-ride lots. A bar and light refreshments are available on-site, adding to the guinguette atmosphere that makes the event so special. In case of bad weather, the organizers plan to move the event to the Espace Avel Vor whenever possible.

Rooted in the peninsula

Les Échappées are part of the cultural policy of the town of Plougastel-Daoulas and its performance venue, Espace Avel Vor. They highlight the town's natural assets—its peninsula, rugged coastline, and maritime heritage—by pairing them with contemporary artistic creation. The festival also relies on the dedication of local volunteers, who are recruited each year to help with setup, parking management, the bar, and driving the shuttles.
