Les Feux de Bengale: Froidfond's musical celebration since 2009

Born in 2009 on the initiative of the Comité Festif Froidfondais, the Les Feux de Bengale festival has become a must-attend summer event in Froidfond, a small town in Vendée nestled between Challans and Machecoul. What was initially just a popular dance on the town hall square in 2008 quickly transformed into a true free music festival, driven by a handful of passionate volunteers and the support of the municipality.

A Festive and Accessible Concept

The concept of Les Feux de Bengale is as simple as it is effective: to offer a free evening of celebration open to all audiences. Each edition features two concerts by musical groups with varied styles, followed by a fireworks display funded by the town and a DJ set to extend the festivities late into the night. The festival makes a point of showcasing eclectic musical acts, blending rock, world music, funk, ska, and festive popular music. This deliberately diverse programming reflects the spirit of openness and conviviality that drives the event.

A Festival Rooted in the Vendée Bocage

Initially held at the Stade Philippe Violleau, Les Feux de Bengale now takes place outdoors near the Espace Anne Roumanoff, Froidfond's multi-purpose hall designed by architect Michel Joyau. This new location offers an ideal setting to welcome festival-goers in good conditions, with a dedicated area for food and drink managed by the committee's volunteers. As early as 2010, the municipality wanted to get more involved by funding the fireworks display, a sign of the town's commitment to this unifying event.

The Associative and Festive Spirit of Froidfond

Les Feux de Bengale embodies the associative energy of Froidfond. The Comité Festif Froidfondais, created in 2008, organizes several events throughout the year—themed meals, garage sales—of which Les Feux de Bengale is the summer highlight. Entirely run by volunteers, the festival has survived over fifteen editions while retaining its soul: complete freeness, musical discovery, and the pleasure of gathering with neighbors and friends to celebrate the Vendée summer. Over the years, Les Feux de Bengale has hosted bands with diverse universes—from Epsylon to Balbazar, from S-Crow to Les Treizeurs du Mat—confirming the richness of its ever-renewed programming.
