On the trail of William the Conqueror in Dives-sur-Mer
Les Médiévales de Guillaume is a medieval festival organized in Dives-sur-Mer, a historic port from which Duke William of Normandy embarked in 1066 to conquer England. For two days, the town travels back in time with camp reenactments, shows, medieval arts workshops, children's games, craft markets, and concerts. This periodic event revives the spirit of William the Conqueror in the streets of this historic Norman city.
In 1066, over 950 years ago, the Duke of Normandy prepared his armies in Dives-sur-Mer before embarking for the conquest of England. The Médiévales de Guillaume bring this glorious era back to life in the streets of the Norman city, with a rich program of historical reenactments, shows, and entertainment for the whole family.
For a weekend, Dives-sur-Mer transforms into a medieval town. Historical encampments are set up in the town, animated by reenactment groups presenting daily life, combat techniques, and medieval crafts. Visitors can discover the Halles médiévales (medieval market halls) of Dives-sur-Mer, a remarkable historical monument that served as a market as early as the 11th century.
The program includes street performances, medieval arts workshops (fencing, archery, calligraphy), children's games, a medieval craft market with artisans offering their creations, and concerts of medieval music. The spirit of the Conqueror animates every corner of the town in a festive and family-friendly atmosphere.
Les Médiévales de Guillaume are organized periodically by the City of Dives-sur-Mer, with editions spaced a few years apart. Each edition is an opportunity to rediscover the history of William the Conqueror and the medieval heritage of this Norman port city.
