A medieval weekend in the heart of the Aisne
The Médiévales de Neufchâtel-sur-Aisne were born from the desire of the association Neufchâtel En Fête to create festive days open to everyone, dedicated to discovery, wonder, and sharing around the medieval universe. Each edition transforms the rue du Gué Josse and the place de l'Église of this Picardy village into a vast medieval camp where knights, artisans, archers, dancers, and musicians mingle.
Eight associations for a lively camp
The heart of the event relies on the presence of eight historical reenactment associations that animate the camp continuously. Les Barbiers Fous offer humorous sketches, axe throwing, a heraldry workshop, and presentations of medieval weapons. Les Loups du Mesnil, a reenactment troupe covering the Carolingian, Viking, and Hundred Years' War periods, mix combatants and artisans to bring history to life through exchange and education. Les Couloirs du Temps Champenois introduce visitors to medieval dance, calligraphy, weaving, and offer a fun trail for children.
Les Barbillons du Val des Sacres focus on archery, with demonstrations and initiations open to the public as well as arrow assembly workshops. La Compagnie du Crépuscule presents activities around weapons and armor, medieval surgery, weaving, herbalism, and offers fencing workshops. Les Compagnons de la Chouette introduce calligraphy, Viking writing, and coat of arms creation. The group Sorga provides the musical ambiance with medieval melodies and Renaissance dances. Finally, Les Outils de l'Histoire showcase medieval textile techniques, woodworking, and calligraphy.
Equestrian and pyrotechnic shows
Highlights of each edition, the equestrian shows by the company Art'ata present « Les Cavaliers Légendaires », a show combining medieval riding, liberty dressage, and equestrian vaulting. On Saturday evening, a fire show by Les Couloirs du Temps Champenois features ten medieval characters wielding fiery elements in a spectacular choreography of juggling and pyrotechnics.
Artisan market and catering
An artisan market bringing together a dozen exhibitors completes the medieval immersion with local artisanal creations. The bar and catered food allow visitors to eat on site throughout the event. Four parking lots are available for visitors: micro-crèche parking, old station housing development parking, Le Relais parking, and Silo parking.
