The Middle Ages at the foot of a fairytale castle

The Château de Pierrefonds, a masterpiece of neo-Gothic architecture restored in the 19th century by Eugène Viollet-le-Duc, long provided a spectacular backdrop for the Médiévales de Pierrefonds. Beneath its towers and ramparts, the village would transform for a summer weekend into a true medieval city.

A grand medieval market

The heart of the festival was its medieval market, which brought together dozens of exhibitors: artisans, blacksmiths, armorers, costume makers, jewelers, and local food producers showcased their creations and traditional skills in an authentic atmosphere.

Shows and entertainment

Past programs included jousting tournaments, falconry displays, blacksmithing demonstrations, sword fighting, fire-breathers, jugglers, medieval musicians and troubadours, dances, and costumed parades, alongside encampments where reenactors brought daily life in the Middle Ages to life. Numerous activities for children and families (archery lessons, workshops, games) rounded out the day.

An exceptional heritage setting

The village of Pierrefonds (60350), nestled in the heart of the Compiègne forest and dominated by the silhouette of its castle, offered one of the most spectacular settings in northern France for this medieval celebration.
