A festival created by pianist Gabriel Tacchino in 1975
The Nuits Musicales du Suquet were born in 1975 at the initiative of internationally renowned pianist Gabriel Tacchino. Captivated by the magic of the Suquet district, the old town of Cannes perched on its hill, he envisioned an open-air classical music festival in this exceptional heritage setting. For nearly fifty years, the festival has established itself as the unmissable summer event for classical music on the Côte d'Azur.
The Forecourt of Notre-Dame d'Espérance: a dream setting
The heart of the festival beats on the forecourt of the Notre-Dame d'Espérance church, built in 1642, with its characteristic Romanesque bell tower. Located at the top of the Suquet hill, this forecourt offers a panoramic view of the bay of Cannes, the Lérins Islands, and the Esterel, in a setting that blends medieval stones and starry skies. Concerts are also scheduled in the Cour du Musée de la Castre, another heritage gem of the Suquet, for small ensemble recitals at 7 p.m. before the evening concerts at 9:15 p.m.
An intimate festival dedicated to excellence
Les Nuits Musicales du Suquet are distinguished by their intimate format: a week of concerts in July, featuring piano recitals, string quartets, chamber music ensembles, and orchestral performances. From Mozart to Chopin, from Beethoven to Ravel, the program explores the great classical and romantic repertoire while also embracing contemporary works. The festival invites leading soloists, renowned ensembles, and promising young talents.
2024 Edition: the 43rd edition
The 43rd edition took place from July 22 to 28, 2024, with concerts at 9:15 p.m. on the Forecourt of Notre-Dame d'Espérance church and recitals at 7 p.m. in the Cour du Musée de la Castre. The program brought together soloists, chamber ensembles, and orchestras in a repertoire ranging from baroque to contemporary.
A jewel of Cannes' cultural life
Supported by the Association des Amis des Nuits Musicales de Cannes - Le Suquet (ANMC) and by the City of Cannes and the Orchestre national de Cannes, Les Nuits Musicales du Suquet contribute to the city's cultural influence beyond cinema and the Cannes Film Festival. They offer music lovers and the curious a unique musical experience, where the beauty of music combines with the beauty of heritage and the Mediterranean landscape.
