Musical meeting of young orchestras from around the world
Les Orchestrades Universelles is an annual musical gathering of young French and foreign orchestras, bringing together several hundred musicians aged 10 to 25 from around the world each August in Brive-la-Gaillarde.
Created in 1984 on the initiative of Simone du Breuil, president of SOJE (Symphony of European Youth Orchestras), Les Orchestrades Universelles has become a major musical event in Europe. Every August, Brive-la-Gaillarde hosts several hundred young musicians from around the world.
In 1993, the Orchestrades brought together over 1,100 musicians and singers, earning them a place in the Guinness Book of Records in the "classical music event" category.
The Orchestrades welcome all musical styles: classical, contemporary, traditional, sacred, rock, ethnic, jazz, and electronic. All concerts are free, and some take place in various locations across the Brive region.
At the end of the festival, the young musicians gather into a giant orchestra for a concert at the Espace des Trois Provinces, which attracts over 3,000 spectators each year. For this unique occasion, a contemporary creation commissioned by the State is performed.
