The summer comedy event in Nice
Created in 2010, the festival Les Plages du Rire has established itself as the major comedy event on the French Riviera. Every summer, the Théâtre de Verdure in Nice hosts the biggest names in French comedy for three evenings, offering the public a festival of laughter in an idyllic setting, right in the heart of the Promenade des Anglais.
The Théâtre de Verdure, a setting for laughter
The festival takes place at the Théâtre de Verdure, nestled in the Jardin Albert 1er in Nice. This open-air theatre with approximately 3,200 seats, built in 1946, offers an enchanting setting between lush vegetation and sea breeze. The comedy evenings take on a special dimension here: the audience laughs under the stars, lulled by the gentle Mediterranean nights. The intimacy of the venue fosters a unique connection between the artists and the spectators.
The biggest names in French comedy
Over the years, Les Plages du Rire has hosted an impressive parade of comedy stars. Among the artists who have graced the stage of the Théâtre de Verdure are Anne Roumanoff, Les Chevaliers du Fiel, Kev Adams, Elodie Poux, Redouane Bougheraba, Mathieu Madénian, Laurent Baffie, Kheiron, Franjo, and Félix Dhjan. Each evening is headlined by a major star, accompanied by emerging comedians who benefit from valuable exposure.
An evolving format
While the heart of the festival remains the three summer evenings in July-August, Les Plages du Rire has expanded its format by launching a winter edition in 2025. From January 17 to February 2, 2025, the festival offered comedy shows in other Nice venues, featuring Laurent Baffie, Félix Dhjan, Kheiron, and Franjo. This winter extension demonstrates the festival's vitality and the Nice audience's appetite for comedy.
Complete and convivial evenings
Each evening of Les Plages du Rire is a complete show. The headliners are preceded by opening acts that showcase new talent, creating a crescendo of laughter throughout the evening. Comedians such as Laurent Barat, Sacha Losi, Yves Pujol, Jo Bramy, and Amy London have benefited from the festival's platform to gain public recognition. A talent competition is also organized to discover the stars of tomorrow.
