A medieval immersion in the heart of the fortified town of Coucy
Since 2007, the Seigneuriales de Coucy have transported visitors back to the time of lords and knights, in the exceptional setting of the medieval town of Coucy-le-Château-Auffrique, dominated by the remains of one of the most powerful fortresses of the Middle Ages. Organized by the AMVCC (Association de Mise en Valeur du Château de Coucy), this free medieval festival attracts thousands of visitors each year for a spring weekend in Parc L'Hermite and the streets of the upper town.
An artisanal market and historical encampments
The medieval market brings together about fifty artisans offering items inspired by the Middle Ages and the fantasy universe: artisanal cutlery, wooden objects, leatherwork, period costumes, jewelry, illuminations, and medieval delicacies. Throughout the event, eight historical mediation encampments are continuously animated by reenactment groups from the 13th to the 15th centuries. The Seigneurie de Coucy, an AMVCC medieval troupe composed of about twenty volunteers, immerses visitors in the daily life of the 14th century.
Shows, falconry, and combats
The Seigneuriales offer a rich program of live shows. Falconry demonstrations allow visitors to admire birds of prey in free flight. Knight combats in armor, street performances, minstrels, medieval dancers, and storytellers animate the streets and squares of the town throughout the day. Heritage workshops (blacksmithing, carpentry, stone cutting) allow visitors to discover ancestral know-how, and AMVCC volunteers offer a tour of the Porte de Laon site, which is currently under restoration.
The medieval banquet and fireworks
On Saturday evening, the Banquet Médiéval des Sires offers a culinary immersion worthy of medieval tables in the salle Gabrielle d'Estrées: aperitif, starter, main course, dessert, and a quarter of wine, all accompanied by costumed entertainment and the presence of the emblematic dragon of the Seigneuriales. The banquet requires reservation (€26 for adults, €12.50 for children). Saturday concludes with a grand fireworks display launched from the ramparts at 10:30 PM, illuminating the fortress in a magical spectacle.
A grand costume parade
The grand medieval parade on Saturday late afternoon brings together all the reenactment groups, artisans, and costumed visitors in the streets of the town. The organizers encourage visitors to come in period costumes: capes, tunics, hennins, or armor, for an unforgettable immersive experience. A medieval tavern allows visitors to eat on-site in a medieval atmosphere.
