The great cheese and gastronomic products fair of Pays d'Auge
Since 1989, the Livarot Cheese Fair has celebrated Livarot AOP cheese and gastronomic products in the streets of the town center of Livarot-Pays-d'Auge. Organized by the Livarot Animations association, this fair brings together around 80 exhibitors from all over France, offering cheeses, cured meats, wines, sweet and savory products, in a friendly and popular atmosphere.
Livarot AOP, nicknamed "the Colonel" due to its five strips of rye grass, is the star of the fair. Visitors discover and taste this emblematic cheese of the Pays d'Auge, alongside its Norman cousins — Camembert, Pont-l'Évêque, and Neufchâtel — and regional and national gastronomic specialties.
The most spectacular moment of the fair is the "biggest Livarot eater" contest, which involves devouring 750 grams of Livarot in a record time. This tasting challenge attracts brave competitors and an enthusiastic audience every Sunday afternoon. A yogurt eating contest is also offered to children aged 6 to 10 on Saturday.
The fair offers numerous activities: inflatable structures, face painting, duck fishing, pedal cars for children, musical entertainment, wattle and daub and flour painting demonstrations, and cheese label exchange for collectors. The country meal on Saturday evening in Place Pasteur and the free dance evening complete this festive weekend.
The 37th Livarot Cheese Fair will be held on Saturday, August 1st and Sunday, August 2nd, 2026, from 10 am to 7 pm, in the streets of Livarot town center (Livarot-Pays-d'Auge, Calvados). Organized by the Livarot Animations association, this large gastronomic fair brings together approximately 80 exhibitors showcasing cheese and local products. Free entry.
On Saturday, August 1st and Sunday, August 2nd, 2026, from 10 am to 7 pm, Livarot town center will host the 37th edition of its famous Cheese and Gastronomic Products Fair. Organized by the Livarot Animations association, the event brings together around eighty exhibitors from Normandy and all over France, offering cheeses, cold cuts, wines, and local specialties.
Throughout the weekend: exhibitions, demonstrations, and workshops on heritage and and traditions, street entertainment, shows, and free games for everyone. A highlight of the fair is the tasting of the world's largest Livarot cheese, followed, on Sunday afternoon, by the traditional competition for the biggest Livarot eater (devouring 750 g of Livarot in record time).
For dining, a musical buffet is offered on Saturday evening and Sunday lunchtime at the Halle au Beurre. A country meal followed by a dance party takes place on Saturday evening, from 8 pm, at Place Pasteur (by reservation). Entry to the fair is free.
