A festival in the heart of the Château-Thierry medieval castle

Since 1996, the Living Heritage Festival has taken over the Château-Thierry medieval castle each year, a fortress overlooking the Marne valley, for a weekend of celebration of historical and cultural heritage. Created by the association Patrimoine Vivant, a non-profit organization (loi 1901), this festival has become a must-attend event in the cultural life of the Aisne region and the Hauts-de-France region. The association's goal is to promote heritage in all its forms: architectural, historical, musical, and cultural.

Historical Reenactments and Medieval Encampments

The heart of the festival beats to the rhythm of life-size historical reenactments. On the esplanade and within the castle walls, medieval encampments come to life with artistic troupes and companies from all over France. Visitors can witness weapon combat demonstrations, discover ancient forging and craft techniques, and participate in medieval games for young and old. An artisan market offers creations and goods inspired by ancestral traditions.

Live Shows, Music, and Dance

The festival's program is not limited to the medieval era. Each edition offers a rich palette of live shows: Celtic and folk-rock music concerts, folk dances, cabaret acts, dance performances, street entertainment, and sound and light shows. Troupes and artistic companies take over the various spaces of the castle to create a festive and immersive atmosphere, blending eras and disciplines. Troubadours, jugglers, musicians, and dancers entertain the site from morning to night.

A Family-Friendly and Popular Event

The Living Heritage Festival is distinguished by its family-friendly and accessible nature. Participatory workshops allow children to learn medieval skills: handling foam swords, calligraphy, archery. Visitors are encouraged to come in costume to fully immerse themselves in the atmosphere. The festival also offers on-site catering with dishes inspired by medieval cuisine and local specialties. The event actively contributes to the valorization of the Château-Thierry medieval castle and the cultural influence of southern Aisne.

Living Heritage — edition 2026
