L'Paille à Sons returns for its 12th edition on Friday, June 5 and Saturday, June 6, 2026 at Stade Jacques Couvret (Les Grands Prés) in Chartres. True to its identity as an «eccentric festival of contemporary music from here and elsewhere», this new edition brings together an eclectic lineup that features reggae, rap, chanson, oriental jazz, techno, folk and revisited traditional music.
A lineup of headliners and discoveries
Friday evening opens with the festive reggae of Youthie, followed by the world music of Karpatt, the street theater of Gagarine is not dead, the «viking trance» accordion concert-performance by Antti Paalanen, the roots reggae of Danakil as the headliner, then the oriental jazz rock of SARĀB to close the night.
Saturday features an even denser lineup: the folk pop of Löwy Band, the Big Band of the Conservatoire de Chartres, the dreamy techno of Romane Santarelli, the rap of Oxmo Puccino, the gypsy folk of La Rue Kétanou, the electropop of O'o, the electro neo-trad folk of Le Mange Bal and the live techno of Jasmine Not Jafar. Throughout the weekend, Cie Em.portés offers itinerant performances on site.

L'Paille à Sons: Chartres' Eccentric Festival
Born in 2014, L'Paille à Sons quickly established itself as a must-attend event on the music scene in Eure-et-Loir. Self-proclaimed "eccentric festival of current music from here and elsewhere," it celebrates musical diversity by offering an audacious and generous program each year that blends genres: rock, world music, French chanson, funk, afrobeat, reggae, folk, and many other styles.
A Unique Outdoor Setting
The festival takes place at the Stade des Grands Prés (Stade Jacques Couvret), a green space in the heart of Chartres that offers an ideal setting for two days of open-air music. The site layout emphasizes conviviality: human-sized stages, food areas with local products, association-run bars, and relaxation zones invite festival-goers to fully enjoy the experience.
The Association Les Sons du Sous-Sol
L'Paille à Sons is driven by the association Les Sons du Sous-Sol, a collective of music-loving volunteers dedicated to animating local cultural life by promoting current artistic practices. The association also organizes other musical events throughout the year, including the winter festival L'Paille à Sonique in Luisant.
An Eclectic and Demanding Program
Each edition of L'Paille à Sons brings together established artists and emerging talents on stage, with a particular focus on discovery and musical openness. The festival hosts bands from France and abroad, offering concerts that invite listeners on a sonic journey and to dance. Live shows, exhibitions, and artistic performances complement a dense and varied musical program.
With its affordable prices and family-friendly atmosphere, L'Paille à Sons embodies a vision of culture that is open to all, rooted in its territory, and looking towards the world.
