Performing arts festival for young audiences in the Agglo du Pays de Dreux
The Festival Pollen is the annual event for performing arts for young audiences in the Agglo du Pays de Dreux. Organized by L'Atelier à Spectacle, a conventioned venue in Vernouillet, this itinerant festival offers theater, dance, circus, puppetry, and music performances specially designed for children and families. For several days in January, companies take over the performance halls and schools in seven towns in the region: Anet, Brezolles, Dreux, Ézy-sur-Eure, Nonancourt, Saint-Lubin-des-Joncherets, and Vernouillet.
The Festival Pollen was born from the desire of the Agglo du Pays de Dreux and L'Atelier à Spectacle to offer a quality cultural event for the youngest. Each year in January, this itinerant festival spreads across seven towns in the region — Anet, Brezolles, Dreux, Ézy-sur-Eure, Nonancourt, Saint-Lubin-des-Joncherets, and Vernouillet — bringing performing arts closer to families and children, including in rural areas often far from cultural offerings.
The Festival Pollen program explores all forms of performing arts adapted for young audiences: theater, dance, circus, puppetry, storytelling, music, and hybrid forms combining several disciplines. The performances are selected for their artistic quality, their ability to amaze and stimulate the imagination of children, from toddlers to pre-teens. Each edition features several different shows, performed in municipal performance halls, media libraries, and sometimes directly in the schools of the region.
L'Atelier à Spectacle, located in Vernouillet, is the conventioned venue of the Agglo du Pays de Dreux. With its 950-seat hall, it offers a rich and varied program throughout the year: music, theater, dance, circus, and comedy. The Festival Pollen is part of its mission of cultural democratization and artistic education, by offering accessible performances to all audiences, with adapted prices and outreach activities for schoolchildren.
Beyond the performances, the Festival Pollen offers an outreach and workshop component aimed at helping children discover performing arts. Meet-and-greets with artists, artistic practice workshops (theater, dance, visual arts), and awareness sessions in schools prepare young spectators for the experience of the show. These outreach activities contribute to training the audiences of tomorrow and to permanently anchoring culture in the daily lives of families in the Pays de Dreux.
The Festival Pollen plays a unifying role in the Agglo du Pays de Dreux. By simultaneously investing several towns, it creates a shared cultural event that strengthens the sense of belonging to the territory. Elected officials, residents, teachers, and artists collaborate to bring this festival to life, which has become a highlight of the cultural season for L'Atelier à Spectacle and an event eagerly awaited by families throughout the Eure-et-Loir department.
