Évreux en Fête: The Prefecture of Eure Celebrates Christmas

Each year, from late November to early January, the city of Évreux, prefecture of Eure, adorns itself with its most beautiful lights for the Christmas festivities. Under the label "Évreux en Fête", a complete program of activities transforms the city center into a place of encounters, discoveries, and celebrations for all ages.

The Departmental Christmas Farmers' Market

A highlight of the festivities, the Christmas Farmers' Market has been organized for over 25 years by the Department of Eure at the Hôtel du Département (14 boulevard Georges-Chauvin). For three days, the hall is transformed into a market hall with chalets, decorations, and a large Christmas tree. More than 30 producers from Eure present their specialties: poultry, meats, foie gras, black pudding, ciders, fruit juices, honeys, cheeses, snails, confectionery, oils, flours, artisanal breads, and local beers. A photo booth in a Christmas setting and a creative workshop for making decorations are offered free of charge on weekends.

The German Christmas Market

Évreux also offers an authentic German Christmas market, located in the city center. Visitors can discover German pastries, traditional decorations, pretzels, mulled wine (Glühwein), and currywurst, in a warm and exotic atmosphere reminiscent of the famous Weihnachtsmärkte across the Rhine.

The Ice Rink and Festive Village

A 250 m² ice rink is set up for the occasion, open from 10 am to 7 pm on weekends and from 12 pm to 7 pm on weekdays. Wearing gloves is mandatory to access it. An associations and creators' village offers sales of artisanal items and treats for the benefit of local charities, from 2 pm to 7 pm every day.

Activities and Shows

The Évreux en Fête program includes numerous activities: a funfair set up at the end of November, Saint Nicholas Day at the beginning of December, musical entertainment on the Place du Général-de-Gaulle with concerts and street musicians, daily creative workshops (card making, modeling, puppetry, calligraphy), and a Christmas parade with colorful characters. Santa Claus is present for souvenir photos on weekends. All of this forms a festive program that accompanies the people of Évreux and visitors throughout the month of December.
