About Lyrique en Mer
An Opera Festival in the Heart of the Atlantic
Since 1998, Lyrique en Mer has echoed opera voices on Belle-Île-en-Mer, the largest of the Breton islands. This international festival, founded and directed by David Jackson, has established itself over more than twenty-five years as the largest opera festival in Western France, attracting lyrical artists from around the world each summer in an exceptional natural and heritage setting.
A Program Between Opera, Sacred Music, and Discoveries
The Lyrique en Mer program is structured around three major themes: opera, sacred music, and the development of young talent. Each edition features a complete opera production, prepared with an orchestra and staging, presented at the Salle Arletty in Le Palais. Sacred music concerts take place in the island's churches and chapels, offering remarkable acoustics in historic locations. Recitals, chamber music concerts, and participatory events complete a rich and accessible program.
The Young Artists Academy
One of the festival's pillars is its Young Lyrical Artists Academy, which annually hosts young singers and musicians at the beginning of their careers for an intensive artistic immersion. Selected through international auditions, these artists benefit from high-level coaching and perform in public concerts throughout the festival, offering the public a chance to discover the voices of tomorrow.
Belle-Île-en-Mer: A Natural Setting for Lyrical Art
The island nature of Belle-Île-en-Mer gives the festival a unique atmosphere. Spectators, arriving by ferry from Quiberon, discover an event where lyrical art dialogues with the wild landscapes of the Atlantic coast, the cliffs of Pointe des Poulains, and the sandy beaches. The village of Le Palais, the island's capital, becomes a true lyrical village for two weeks, where artists and music lovers mingle in a friendly and intimate atmosphere.

Supported by international patrons and foundations such as GRoW Annenberg, Lyrique en Mer has developed a global artistic network. The festival has hosted renowned artists, innovative directors, and leading instrumental ensembles on its stages, while remaining true to its mission of making opera accessible to the greatest number in an exceptional setting.
Lyrique en Mer — edition 2026
The 28th edition of Lyrique en Mer will be held from July 31 to August 14, 2026, in Belle-Île-en-Mer (Morbihan). Two weeks of lyrical art under the sign of Mozart, with operas, sacred music concerts, recitals, and children's concerts given in the Arletty hall, the island's churches, and several outdoor venues. The academy for young lyrical artists welcomes a new class of international singers.
A 28th edition under the sign of Mozart
The 2026 edition of Lyrique en Mer celebrates Mozart's 270th anniversary through a sacred music cycle titled « Sacré Mozart ! » (Requiem, Ave Verum Corpus and other sacred works), under the direction of Guillaume Paire.
Also on the program are two operas performed at the Arletty hall: L'Enfant et les Sortilèges by Maurice Ravel and Don Procopio by Georges Bizet, a rare opera rediscovered for the occasion. Soprano Natalie Dessay is the festival's guest of honor with the recital « Legrand Enchanteur », dedicated to Michel Legrand's repertoire, accompanied by the Pierre Boussaguet Quartet.
The festival opens with a grand participatory concert, « Venez Chanter On Broadway », centered around Leonard Bernstein's West Side Story, bringing together amateur singers, children, and artists from the Opera Studio. The program is completed by chamber recitals, instrumental duos, and concerts for young audiences.

Practical information — Lyrique en Mer
Access to the Festival
By Sea: Belle-Île-en-Mer is accessible by ferry from Quiberon (45-minute crossing). The Océane company operates several daily crossings in summer. It is strongly advised to book ferry tickets in advance, as crossings are in high demand in July-August. The arrival port is Le Palais, very close to the festival venues.
By Car: Reach Quiberon via the RN165 then the D768. Long-term parking is available at the port of Quiberon. It is recommended to leave your vehicle in Quiberon and travel around the island by bike or bus.
By Train: Auray station (TGV from Paris in 3 hours), then a bus or taxi connection to Quiberon.
Festival Venues
The performances mainly take place at the Salle Arletty, located in Le Palais, as well as in the island's churches and chapels. A map of the venues is available on the official festival website.
Ticketing and Prices
Tickets are available on the official website lyrique-belle-ile.com, in the Ticketing section. Prices vary depending on the performance: from €10 to €50 for concerts and opera performances. Reduced rates are offered for young people, students, and island residents. Some participatory events are free.
Accommodation
Belle-Île-en-Mer offers various accommodation options: hotels, B&Bs, campsites, and seasonal rentals. It is essential to book very early, as the island is a very popular destination in summer. The Belle-Île Tourist Office can assist you with your search: www.belle-ile.com.
Accessibility
The Salle Arletty is accessible to people with reduced mobility. For other venues (chapels, churches), accessibility may be limited due to the historic configuration of the buildings. Contact the festival in advance for any specific requests.
