Street performance festival in the Aire valley
Since 2001, the small village of Pierrefitte-sur-Aire, with 250 inhabitants in the heart of the Aire valley, transforms every year into a vast open-air theater. The Ma Rue Prend l'Aire festival takes over the streets, farmyards, meadows, barns, cellars, and private gardens to offer eclectic and high-quality street performances in unusual and intimate settings.
The originality of the festival lies in the mix of professional shows by companies from all over France and beyond, and local creations by the village residents themselves. This encounter between professionals and amateurs creates a unique dynamic and a warm atmosphere where the line between artists and spectators blurs.
Each edition offers around sixty performances of twenty different shows. The disciplines are varied: circus, acrobatics, itinerant theater, clowning, street music, dance, aerial performances, BMX, and motorcycle shows. About twenty stages are set up throughout the village, offering spectators a festive and surprising journey.
Saturday is dedicated to Festi'Mioches, a half-day of shows and activities specially designed for children and families. Clown shows, artistic workshops, a hand-cranked wooden carousel, and performances adapted for young audiences make this day a special time for the little ones.
Since the 1980s, Pierrefitte-sur-Aire has cultivated a passion for theater and street arts. The festival is the result of this long-standing community commitment, driven by the village's cultural and sports associations. Ma Rue Prend l'Aire embodies the cultural vitality of a small rural village that refuses to succumb to isolation.
On Sunday, the main day of the festival, shows run from 11 am to 7 pm throughout the village. Spectators wander freely between the different stages, guided by sounds, laughter, and applause. Refreshments and food stands are available on-site, completing this festive outdoor day.
