The humor and stand-up festival on the outskirts of Nantes
Mauves de Rire is the humor festival of Mauves-sur-Loire, twenty minutes from Nantes, in Loire-Atlantique. Created in 2017 by the eponymous association, it offers every autumn a weekend dedicated to laughter in all its forms at the Théâtre Le Vallon. The programming mixes one-man-shows by established artists on the French comedy scene, family shows, and a young talent competition that reveals new comedians each year. A friendly and accessible event, the festival has built a loyal and growing enthusiastic audience over the editions.
Founded in 2017 by the association Mauves de Rire, the festival was born from the desire to create a cultural event dedicated to humor in Mauves-sur-Loire, a town on the Loire located twenty minutes from Nantes. From its very first edition in October 2017, the festival was a great success, notably with Nadia Roz performing to a sold-out crowd. Since then, the event has continued to grow, expanding from a few performances to a full weekend of shows at the Théâtre Le Vallon, a modern cultural venue inaugurated in 2009 with 226 seats.
Each edition of Mauves de Rire is built around two pillars. On one hand, shows by established comedians who are making waves on the French scene: Aymeric Lompret, Laura Domenge, Mélodie Fontaine, Yacine Belhousse, Pierre Thevenoux, Tristan Lopin, Booder, Antonia de Rendinger, and Olivia Moore have graced the stage of Le Vallon over the years. On the other hand, the Tremplin Jeunes Talents (Young Talent Competition), the iconic opening night on Friday, where seven candidates selected from over 120 applications each have ten minutes to win over the audience with their comedic style. This competition has become a true breeding ground for discoveries, like Léo Hardt, who was revealed at the 2024 competition and invited as a solo act the following year.
The festival spans three days, from Friday to Sunday, with varied programming ranging from stand-up to one-man-shows, including family shows like “1 heure pour comprendre son ado” (1 hour to understand your teenager) with Camille Wehrlin, featured in the 8th edition. The warm atmosphere and the human scale of the Théâtre Le Vallon allow for a unique closeness between artists and the audience, making each performance a moment of sharing and camaraderie. Tickets, affordably priced (20 euros full price, 18 euros reduced price), are available online and from local shops in Mauves-sur-Loire.
