Medieval festival with equestrian shows, tournaments, and an artisan market at the Equiloisirs site in Rouffignac, in Périgord noir
The Rouffignac Medieval Festival, also known as the Médiévales de Rouffignac, is a festive and family-friendly event that takes place every spring in Rouffignac-Saint-Cernin-de-Reilhac, in the heart of Périgord noir in Dordogne. Over a weekend in April, the Equiloisirs site transforms into a medieval city with equestrian shows, knight tournaments, an artisan market, a medieval tavern, games for children and adults, a mini-farm, and pony rides. Medieval meals by reservation complete this immersion into the Middle Ages.
Every spring, Rouffignac-Saint-Cernin-de-Reilhac dons its medieval attire to host the Médiévales de Rouffignac, organized by the Equiloisirs association on its site at the locality called Estreguil. This popular event transforms the premises into a true medieval city for an April weekend, with entertainment for the whole family.
The highlight of the festival consists of the equestrian shows and knight tournaments that punctuate the two days. Armored riders clash in spectacular jousts before an enthralled audience. Continuous medieval entertainment — combat, weapon demonstrations, knighting ceremony — completes the program.
An artisan market offers objects made using ancestral techniques: leather, wood, wrought iron, medieval jewelry. Children can enjoy a mini-farm, pony rides, and adapted medieval games. The medieval tavern offers food and drinks throughout the day, and medieval meals are available by reservation on Saturday evening and Sunday lunchtime.
