Sound and light show on the Saint-Front cathedral of Périgueux
Every winter, the Saint-Front Cathedral in Périgueux, a jewel of Romanesque-Byzantine architecture listed as a UNESCO World Heritage site, becomes the backdrop for a magical sound and light show. The light projections transform the cathedral's facade into a giant screen, telling an enchanting Christmas story visible from the Place de la Clautre.
The show consists of short scenes projected in a loop, lasting approximately 10 minutes, every evening from 6:30 PM to 7:30 PM. The magic of lights, colors, and sound immerses spectators in a festive atmosphere, blending Christmas tradition with the technical prowess of video mapping.
The Son et Lumière is free and can be viewed directly from the Place de la Clautre, with free access. It is part of Périgueux's Christmas festivities, alongside the Christmas Village and the illuminations of the historic center.
The Saint-Front Cathedral, with its five domes reminiscent of St. Mark's Basilica in Venice, is the emblematic monument of Périgueux. The sound and light show highlights its unique architecture and offers an unforgettable visual experience.
The Son et Lumière show at the Saint-Front Cathedral is expected to return for the 2026-2027 holiday season. The dates and theme of the show will be announced in the fall of 2026 on the City of Périgueux website.
