About The 40 Potters
The 40 Potters — edition 2026
The 2026 edition of Mirepoix et les 40 Potiers takes place on Tuesday, August 11th and Wednesday, August 12th, under the medieval market hall and on Place Maréchal Leclerc, in the heart of the bastide of Mirepoix (Ariège). The market brings together about forty potters and ceramists for two days of sales, wheel demonstrations, and workshops, within the remarkable setting of Mirepoix's arcades.
Mirepoix et les 40 Potiers — August 11th and 12th, 2026
The "Mirepoix et les 40 Potiers" market returns on Tuesday, August 11th and Wednesday, August 12th, 2026, organized by the Association des Potiers d'Ariège (APA). Mirepoix's beautiful arcaded square transforms for two days into a vast showcase of 100% artisanal ceramics: about forty selected potters and ceramists present their creations — utilitarian pieces, sculptures, culinary tableware, vases, and decorative objects made of earthenware, stoneware, faience, and porcelain.
Each year, the APA offers demonstrations (notably the rope wheel), workshops for children and adults, and an educational exhibition. Applications for exhibitors were open until March 1st, 2026; details of the program and the list of exhibitors will be published throughout the spring on the website of the Association des Potiers d'Ariège.

Forty Potters Under Mirepoix's Medieval Hall
Since 1990, the Mirepoix and the 40 Potters market has gathered nearly 40 professional potters and ceramicists each year in mid-August under the monumental hall and on Place Marechal Leclerc in the medieval bastide of Mirepoix. This event has become a must-see for lovers of ceramics and art crafts in the southwest of France, showcasing the richness and diversity of contemporary ceramic creation.
A Panorama of Contemporary Ceramics
The exhibitors, rigorously selected by the Association des Potiers d'Ariege, present a wide range of techniques and styles: stoneware, faience, porcelain, raku, glazed earthenware, utilitarian ceramics, decorative ceramics, and sculpture. Visitors can discover unique pieces, interact directly with the artisans, and understand the creation processes through throwing demonstrations, modeling, and glazing offered throughout the event.
Workshops, Activities, and Encounters
Beyond the market, the event offers pottery initiation workshops for children and adults, educational panels presenting different ceramic techniques, and activities (performances, live firings, thematic exhibitions). These moments of sharing and transmission make Mirepoix and the 40 Potters a friendly and family-oriented event, accessible to all audiences.
The Exceptional Setting of the Bastide of Mirepoix
Mirepoix's medieval hall, with its impressive wooden structures, and the 13th-century half-timbered arcades offer a remarkable setting for the presentation of ceramic works. Visitors can also enjoy the charm of the town, its shops, its cafes, and its famous Monday weekly market to extend their discovery.
