Every June 21, Guéret celebrates the Fête de la Musique (Music Festival): amateur musicians, music school students, and local bands play for free in the streets, squares, and in the bars and cultural venues of the Creuse prefecture. The day is entirely free and open to all, featuring all musical styles.
The Fête de la Musique in Guéret
As everywhere in France since 1982, the Fête de la Musique transforms the city of Guéret into an open-air stage every June 21. Music freely takes over public spaces, from early evening until the heart of the night, to celebrate the shortest night of the year and the arrival of summer.
A festival throughout the city
Usually, several stages are set up in Guéret city center: you'll find open-air concerts by local and regional bands, music school students, as well as events offered by bars and cultural venues, which extend the celebration on terraces or inside establishments. All genres coexist, from classical to rock, from jazz to contemporary music.
