Noël au Château de Cheverny: Magic in the heart of the Loire Valley

For over ten years, the Château de Cheverny, a Renaissance jewel inscribed on the World Heritage list, has opened its doors to the magic of Christmas for an event that has become a must-see in the festive landscape of Loir-et-Cher. From early December to mid-January, the estate transforms into a luminous fairy tale, offering visitors an immersive experience combining historical heritage, spectacular illuminations, and family entertainment.

A Grandiose Light Show

As night falls, the castle gardens are illuminated by thousands of fairy lights and giant luminous decorations: sparkling fir trees, monumental Christmas balls, gingerbread men, elves, and enchanted animals line the path. The main avenue, lined with dozens of decorated fir trees, leads visitors to a giant Christmas tree reaching 30 meters high, the centerpiece of the outdoor scenography.

Video Mapping on the Castle Facade

From 5:30 PM, the Renaissance facade of the castle comes alive with an enchanting show of animated projections. This video mapping transforms the classical architecture into a living canvas of Christmas colors, projecting fairy-tale scenes that delight both young and old. The projections are renewed each year to offer a consistently new experience.

Indoor Castle Animations

Inside the castle, the historic salons are adorned with their finest holiday decorations. Visitors discover a warm atmosphere with:

  • A gourmet advent calendar displayed in the Maison des Événements, revealing a sweet treat to taste each day
  • A gingerbread village recreating traditional Christmas scenes in miniature
  • The restored dome on the top floor of the castle, illuminated for the occasion
  • Decorations renewed each year in the historic rooms

The Visit of Santa Claus

During the special Christmas Day, Santa Claus and Mrs. Claus make a spectacular arrival at the estate. They settle in the Trophy Room for a photo opportunity with children, accompanied by their elves, and distribute gifts to the youngest visitors. Sessions are organized several times a day during school holidays.

An Event Rooted in Loire Heritage

The Château de Cheverny, which inspired Hergé for Marlinspike Hall in the Adventures of Tintin, is one of the most visited castles in the Loire Valley. The Noël au Château event helps to keep this exceptional heritage alive during the winter season, attracting a family audience from across the Centre-Val de Loire region and beyond. The unique combination of an inhabited, furnished castle that has been home to the same family for six centuries and an ambitious Christmas scenography makes it a special event in the Loir-et-Cher festive calendar.
